Go-Blanket Review & Giveaway (closed)

This past summer my youngest wasn’t walking yet, and so she spent a lot of time crawling around exploring. An easy way to hang out in the backyard was to put a big blanket on the grass and let her crawl around the blanket and explore. Often, though, the grass would be wet with dew from the night before or with rain from the previous day or more. The blanket would then get wet and so would we.

When I read about the Go-Blanket, I knew the company behind it was on to something. Why is it called the Go-Blanket? Because it’s used by families on the go! Made with Polartec® Polarfleece®, these blankets are waterproof yet breathable making them an ideal blanket for all your family outings. Why are all these elements essential in a Go-Blanket?

First, the Polartec® Polarfleece® is the highest quality fleece available. You know those adorable fleece pull-overs we buy for our kids? Yeah, not that kind of fleece. This fleece is the premium kind that doesn’t pill when you wash it or shed in the dryer (ever take a look at your dryer vent after drying fleece?).

The waterproof-breathable fabric is important too. One without the other makes this blanket only useful for one particular purpose (a blanket or a waterproof pad). In this case, having waterproof yet breathable fabric enables this blanket to be used in several different ways, all on the same outing. You can take this blanket to a football game and use it to sit on the bleachers, and then wrap it around your shoulders to stay warm (not damp).

We tested the toddler size (29″ x 36″) blanket in the Animal Crackers design. Since it’s -20 Celsius and the ground is covered with snow, I couldn’t test it in my backyard, but did use it in the house to see if it really was as cozy as I had read. My impression of waterproof lining on products in the past made me think this one would be stiff and not like a ‘real’ blanket.

My son used this as a top-blanket on his bed for the past week. I had read how the picnic size blanket works well for this purpose – extra warmth for sleeping without that suffocating-heat feeling that you get from duvets and the like. It’s been great inside for this purpose but I know we’re going to get so much more use out of it in the summer months. Because it’s not stiff, it’s easy to fold up and pack. It will be perfect to take with us to the park (nothing is more irritating than having wet grass or sand to sit on, a baby blanket just doesn’t work for long).

After trying the Go-Blanket in the toddler size, I know our family would make the most use out of the Large Picnic Size (57×90) so that we could all use it. After reading the customer testimonials, I got some great ideas of other places my Go-Blanket would be useful – how about as a stroller blanket in damp/rainy weather?

If you or someone you know is expecting and they are ‘outdoor’ people, the Go-Blanket would make the perfect baby gift. Much more useful than a sleeper for a family on the go, and more sensible than a standard baby blanket. Many customers report using their toddler blankets until their children are 5 or older.

I love our blanket and can’t wait to take it out with us this summer, but admit I’m keeping my eye on the Picnic size one and may have to make a purchase as the snow starts to melt.

Ready to try out the Go-Blanket for yourself? It can be ordered directly from their site and the Picnic and Large Picnic solid color blankets are on sale right now too!
