I think this Christmas is going to be a Handy Manny Christmas in many households. My 2 year old yells “Hanny Manny!” while reaching for the Handy Manny toys on store shelves (I didn’t realize how many there were until recently) and both she and my 5 year old son are fans of the show at home on tv. As a parent, I don’t mind it either since the songs are catchy and the show teaches children good life lessons about sharing, being kind to others, and finding your own strengths (poor Mr. Lopar, when will he just give in and accept help?!)
Just in time for the holidays, Disney is releasing the first ever full length Handy Manny story on DVD December 1st. Manny is on his way, cross-country, to a fiesta grande (family reunion) and decides to bring his friends and tools along for the ride. Of course, along the way they encounter people who need Manny’s expert help then they end up getting sidetracked by Pat the hamster’s search for his own family.
The DVD includes a holiday themed bonus episode: A Very Handy Holiday with 3 ways to watch and play using your remote – Fast Play (watch the movie as usual), Adventure Mode 1 (ages 2-3) and Adventure Mode 2 (ages 4-5), both of which have questions along the way while watching the movie that can be answered using your remote.
The kids and I enjoyed both the full-length episode and the regular episode on this disc – it will be great to have a Handy Manny DVD in the car for holiday travels this year! The Adventure Modes weren’t as popular in our household as the kids just wanted to watch Handy Manny and his friends, but maybe once they’ve seen the episodes a few times they will be able to play some games along the way.
If you have a Handy Manny fan on your list, this new DVD would be a perfect holiday treat! Better than a loud toy, this DVD guarantees the parents of the little Handy Manny fan at least a few minutes of peace as Handy Manny and the tools take over singing and entertainment.
