LEGO

My son is the biggest LEGO fan I know and talking to my mommy friends with little guys the same age, it’s a common theme. LEGO is huge, because of it’s limitless building potential and absolutely engaging sets. My little guy is a big fan of the LEGO CITY sets, Power Miners, and most recently BIONICLE.

When first starting to purchase LEGO it can be completely overwhelming. There’s so many different themes now. Starting with a basic building blocks set is good, but we found that my son was kind of lost on ideas of what to build. He’s someone who thrives on details and so, the building sets with instructions (easy numbered instructions with photos) were perfect for him. Sets like the Fire Fighter Building Set that we were sent from LEGO to review are the perfect first step for LEGO fans who want to go beyond basic blocks. The set is for ages 4-7 according to the box, which I think is pretty accurate. Yes, for a more experienced builder it’s pretty basic, but it’s a nice compliment to other sets when complete. My son liked the challenge of building 2 different items and also thought the door that swings open, the fire pole, and the entry to the fire station that the truck can drive through were all cool features. It took him less than a half hour to build the entire set, and he’s been playing with it every day since (when his sister doesn’t swipe the car on him!)
LEGO fans are pretty easy to buy for, with so many theme sets out there. If you’re unsure of what theme the little guy (or girl!) on your list is a fan of, a basic set like the Fire Fighter Building Set ($9.99 US/$12.99 CDN) is a great idea. The sets all have recommended age information right on the box. Easy to wrap, hard to disguise when shaken! 😉
