Are you freaked out by all the talk about H1N1 this fall? Not only do we mommies have to worry about the regular ‘ol flu, but now we have this scary H1N1 talk. Regular readers know I’m a self-admitted germo-phobe so you’d think I’d be pretty hyped up about H1N1. Surprisingly though, I’m not. Basic precautions and smart thinking is what it will take to do our best to avoid this nasty bug.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), washing hands is the single most important act to help stop the spread of disease and stay healthy. That’s because, 80% of all infections may be transmitted through our hands. I carry alcohol-based hand cleanser with me all the time (1 in the purse, 1 in the diaper bag, 1 in the car) but I am not comfortable with using it on my youngest’s hands because they are forever in her mouth! Still, this hand to mouth relationship she has obviously is of concern for me (dirty hands in her mouth = germ party).
At home, we use antibacterial soaps but again, what’s IN that soap that my daughter might be putting in her mouth if it’s left on her hands later? A favorite of nurses, LUSH Cosmetics’ new 13 Soap Unlucky for Dirt uses oregano oil as one of the ingredients to fight germs. Yes, oregano oil! We are so used to pump handsoaps that I had to wait until we went shopping for a soap dish to put this new soap to use in our household.
