EA Sports Active (closed)

Without meaning to, we seem to have become a house of gamers. The good thing is that I’m pretty cautious about the games my 5 year old plays, and our favorite gaming system is our Wii. We have family game nights with the Wii (my son kicks our butt with bowling!) and also have the Wii Fit. While my son and I enjoy the Wii Fit, my husband was looking for more of a workout that he could do from home. Being a mom at home with 2 kids, anything that my husband can do at home instead of spending time (and money) at the gym is of benefit to me!

The Preset Workouts are what he has been using, and these consist of workouts ranging from 20 to 40 minutes. The EA Sports Active also has workouts for specific areas of the body like one called Legs and Lungs (high intensity drills to tone your hips, legs & buttocks) as well as themed workouts like Marathon Circuit (muscle-toning exercises, intense cardio & fun sports drills). Each workout has the time beside it listed, so when choosing your workout for the day you know exactly what time frame you’re working with (great for moms who workout during baby’s nap time!)

I liked the information on your calories burned – the system lays out how many calories you can burn by doing a specific exercise or workout.

The adjustable leg strap with the numchuk attached is used for monitoring all the exorcises and activities (this way, you don’t necessarily need a Wii board). The resistance band is used for resistance training, arm curls, arm extensions, etc. One adjustment my husband would have liked to see was the handles of the resistance band being attached directly to the band rather than having to be tied on (the knots started to come undone for him).

I am not a fan of circuit workouts, but enjoy working out while doing an activity so that I don’t even realize I’m exercising (I basically have to trick myself into exercise, how bad is that?) I decided to check out the Volleyball activity on EA Sports Active myself, and was hurting the next day (but had fun while doing it, so I didn’t hate on the EA Sports Active for my muscle pain). Through bumps, sets and serving I managed to pull my thigh muscles quite effectively in one evening! Go mom!

The EA Sports Active has been a great addition to our household – even my kids have fun participating along side dad (let’s face it, he’s using it way more than me…but I’m working on it). Definitely check it out if you’re looking for a good workout, especially going into the fall and winter when getting exercise being outdoors becomes less appealing!

EA Sports has generously offered my readers the opportunity to win 1 EA Sports Active for their family! To enter, check out the EA Sports Active site and the Favorite Workout Creator area (right hand side). Leave me a comment here telling me, from the selections there, what your favorite workout would involve.
