If you’ve had a baby or child with eczema, you know how important it is to be careful with the products you use to bathe your baby in, or what you use to moisturize their delicate skin. My first born, Elijah, has horrible eczema mostly in the summer months. In the winter months his skin gets very dry. I’m quite selective with my detergents, soaps, and lotions for him. When Nevaeh came along, I stuck with the basic lotions I already have. What I missed was the scent! Most times, scent equals irritation. Fortunately, Nevaeh doesn’t have eczema like her brother. Although I could use a variety of products on her skin, I still stick to ‘safe’ creams and lotions, that I know are non-irritating (but admit I do look for ones that smell good!)
When shopping for body products for her, I noticed that although a product made by the usual baby companies may say “sensitive”, their labels don’t look that much different than their usual product. Is it a trend or gimmick that the popularw baby product companies are jumping onto the bandwagon on? I’d assume so.
So, I was happy when I found Bug & Pickle, a company that makes safe, non irritating baby products as a main product, not as a side item to pull in more money like other companies (notice I’m trying really hard to leave out their names here).
I received 4 items to try and was impressed with all of them! The first item we used was the Head-to-Toe Body Wash. Scented with lavender essential oil, it contains no synthetic fragrances or colors (have you noticed how one popular baby shampoo is yellow….urr…why?) The body wash was very gentle on Nevaeh’s skin. It didn’t foam up into huge bubbles in the water like some body washes do, but that’s because it doesn’t contain any artificial products to do that.
The second item we tried, after her first bath with Bug & Pickle products, was the Baby Lotion. Oh baby, if you’re a scent-loving mama like me you will love this powerful aroma! It’s not baby-powder either (shocking for a baby product, I know). The Bug & Pickle Baby Lotion is scented with sweet orange, lavender, and chamomile essential oils resulting in a delicious clean scent. The lotion is infused with extracts of green tea, aloe vera, vitamin E and shea butter. Oh, and it’s non-irritating too! A little goes a long way with this lotion.
The third item we tried, and my favorite one, was the Baby Butter! I used it for exactly the areas it was made for – to soothe the extra dry or irritated patches on a baby’s delicate skin. Nevaeh doesn’t suffer from eczema but she still has dry patches (one that was on her thigh that would not go away….until now). I used the Baby Butter twice a day, once in the morning with her first diaper change and then in the evening after her bath. I only applied it to the dry patch on her thigh and within a week the patch was gone. Lotion didn’t seem to cut it, and I think the reason why the Baby Butter worked so well is that it’s a thick moisturizer that literally locks the moisture in.
The fourth and final item is a keeper. I wasn’t sure if I would get to use it before I posted the review, but Nevaeh is now cutting 4 teeth at once so Bug & Pickle’s Teething Oil was put to the test. I put the bottle in the fridge as recommended, and the cooling sensation is what she liked first. The taste is very mild (I tasted it myself of course). Essential oil of Roman chamomile is the active ingredient here (gentle analgesic). It does its job in no time, and Nevaeh is a happy baby once again. I’m actually pretty surprised about this one because I had given up on anything natural calming my teething baby since teething tablets didn’t work for either of my children. Yay for Bug & Pickle Teething Oil!
