Giveaways and Reviews

Meadowbrook Press (closed)

Oh the lazy days of summer….few and far between this year I know, but they do exist and on those days I like nothing more than reading a book in the sun. I read way more in the summer months than I do in the winter but I’m going to try and keep up with it all through the year as it’s something I enjoy (and we really need to take time to do those things we enjoy, moms!)

Meadowbrook Press sent me a great selection of books to review and what fun is a review if I can’t share the books with you? For each book I review from Meadowbrook Press, they are offering up an additional copy as a giveaway!

Stuck on baby names? I have a few friends who are still debating this and one of these friends is due within the next few weeks so I hope she decides soon! Did you buy any baby names books? I sure did! The Very Best Canadian Baby Name Book by Bruce Lansky was a treat to find on an American based website. The Canadian influence in the book comes from the info provided about the most popular names from select provinces (the most popular names in Saskatchewan in 2006 were Ava and Ethan), names of notable Canadians from entertainment, sports and history, and what famous Canadians are naming their children.

I even found my own name, Tenille, in the book but oddly enough didn’t find my daughter’s name (Nevaeh) even though the book is full of really unique and beautiful names. While flipping through this book with my husband I accidentally said, “For this baby…” when I meant to say, “For the NEXT baby” (someday). Poor man looked a little pale…

Continuing on the theme of waiting for baby, I was also sent Countdown to My Birth by Julie B. Carr which I really really liked. It’s the same size as those desk calendars sold everywhere, except in this one you write in your own dates along with baby’s development date. So, August 18th for example would also be 38w, 2d on this calendar. Each day has information about baby’s development at that time. When I was pregnant I was always reading about where my baby was in each stage of development and it was so amazing to realize that baby was growing the buds that would later become fingers and toes at a specific time.

This book would make a fantastic gift and I am saving mine for a friend who is trying to get pregnant right now. I know she’s going to love it.
