Funky Monkey Snacks (closed)

Summer time is here and we’re on the go! Whether we’re off to shop in the city for the day or just going for a walk to the park, I’m always packing snacks for the kids. I like the convenience of the single serving packages of my kid’s favorite cookie snacks but I don’t like the sugar and artificial ingredients they contain (oddly enough, for my daughter who has allergies, these processed snacks work because they’re completely free of healthy ingredients like dairy and eggs, lol!)

When I had an opportunity to review Funky Monkey Snacks, I checked out their website and thought the products would be a great match for my family. Funky Monkey Snacks are full slices and pieces of freeze-fried fruit that are crunchy because of the special process used. So, children get the benefit of preservative free snacks with a crunch like other less healthy snacks on the market. So, you’re getting a snack that has no added flavors, colors, sugars or preservatives but doesn’t taste like cardboard (honest).When I received our samples, I read the ingredients quickly to make sure there were no surprises and then handed a bag of the Purple Funk flavor (organic banana and organic acai) to the kids to try. Both kids happily munched away at the fruit. I admit, I made them try it first before I did! When I did try a piece (worth mentioning that this isn’t freeze-dried crumble, the pieces are a good size), I was pleasantly surprised by how distinct the flavor was. Obviously, flavor is saved in their freeze-drying process and that appeals to kids. Other flavors are Bananamon, Carnival Mix, and Jivealime.

Each 1 oz bag (it sounds like such a small amount but remember how light freeze-dried fruit becomes) contains 3 servings of fruit! For children ages 2-6, the USDA recommends 2 servings of fruit per day, so a snack like this at the park has your child’s daily intake taken care of and then some!
