What do you splurge on? I don’t mean dropping a big pile of money on something silly, but after all your efforts to save money on other things, what things don’t you compromise on? Mine is hair and body products. I did a comparison the past 2 days, to prove to myself I guess that spending the money on more expensive products was worth it.
Yesterday I washed my hair with my less-expensive shampoo and conditioner that you can buy at any department store or drug store, the same for my styling product I used before blow-drying my hair. My hair was frizzy, had a weird spot that flipped up for some unknown reason, and I really didn’t look ‘nice’ like I had taken the time to wash and style my hair! This morning I used my more expensive shampoo and conditioner that I bought from a hair salon, as well as a hair product 4x more expensive than the cheap stuff I used yesterday, and then blow-dried as usual. Today my hair looks awesome! No frizz, it’s soft and no weird flippy thing going on. So, as much as I love to save money, there’s a point where I will not go for the cheaper items and this is one example of it. What about you?
My friend and I were chatting last night about shoes. I was telling her about the great children’s shoes I had purchased recently for my daughter, but laughed at myself and how I wear ‘cheap’ shoes. I think it’s important for my kids to have proper footwear because of their growing little feet, bone formation, etc. But me? I’ll schlep around in $20 shoes. She tsk-tsked me and reminded me how important good footwear is, and although I know she’s right (and you know who you are miss demanding friend of mine), I have a reeeeealy hard time spending more than about $40 on a pair of shoes, at most.
Today, I picked out a new pair of boots at Walmart for the low price of $25. After driving the one hour home, tonight I pulled them out of the box only to discover I had purchased two left shoes. Serves me right I suppose. 😉
