Summer is here, and with it comes relaxation, sprinklers and family travel! However, there are times when mom and dad are locked into a work schedule or, stay at home parents like me need a break and the kids need something fun and interesting to do for a week or two. Summer camps to the rescue! Through the years, our kids have tried a variety of camps in the city, and new ones are popping up all the time. Below is just a short summary of some camps here in Regina this summer and certainly not an all-inclusive list. If your child has a particular interest, I find it useful to simply ask on social media to see if anyone knows of a particular camp in that hobby/sport/interest or to get reviews from other parents of a camp you’re curious about! Check out these camps taking registrations now…
Saskatchewan Science Center: Day camps are divided by age (6-8 and 9-11) and there are a variety of themes this year including Healthy Mind Healthy Body, Science Hackers, Coding Kids, Junior Archeologist and more.
Bricks 4 Kidz: These camps are building-nirvana for kids who love Lego and building blocks and creating structures and characters. Camps this summer include themes like Mining and Crafting, Movie Mash-Up Camp, Super Hero Engineering and more. There are no set age groups but Bricks 4 Kidz states, “Participants will be divided into small groups with similar aged children working on projects targeted to their build ability.”
School of Rock: School of Rock Regina offers a wide variety of music camps and workshops that cover topics like playing in a band, writing music and more. Our local music camps are perfect for musicians of any skill level who want to play guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals. Age rangers go from 4-5 (Little Wing Beach Boy Camp), 6-8 (Rookies Rock Camp) up to ages 13-18 (Best of the 90’s, and more!) Most camps even end with a live show performed by the campers!
Regina Climbing Centre: Young climbers (ages 6-12) will be instructed on the basics of climbing appropriate to their age and skill ability. As they learn new skills, they can advance through the gym learning “the ropes”. Their goal is to create a life-long love of climbing. No previous climbing experience is necessary.
4 Cats Arts Studio: Have a budding artist in the house? 4 Cats offers summer camps for kids ages 5-12. Throughout the camp, kids can explore a variety of mediums, which encourages a love of learning, independence, creativity and artistic flow!
I have had summers where I booked a ton of camps, wanting the kids to experience as much as possible with all the opportunities available, and other summers where we booked only one. Everyone’s family is different, of course, but having the opportunity to enjoy so m any different camps in the city is certainly an advantage we have here. Know of another great camp you want to tell others about? Simply post details/link in the comments below!
