My Fabulous Life

Visting Spruce Meadows

Earlier this summer, as part of our Momblr adventures, our family was invited to visit Spruce Meadows, just outside of Calgary, Alberta! In all the times we had visited Calgary in the past 15 years or so (typically once every summer) we had never visited Spruce Meadows, and in truth I had not heard about it. Now, that’s not because Spruce Meadows isn’t hugely popular in Calgary and among equestrians (I’m being fancy now, see?) it’s just that it’s kind of a hidden gem when it comes to tourism in the area and I’m guessing if you’ve visited Calgary with your family, you may not have been aware of it either!

The Visitors Guide offers a ton of useful information for visitors, including Do’s and Don’ts when visiting (Do grab a Daysheet and keep score during competitions, Don’t surprise a horse by waving in their face or coming up behind one if you’re fortunate enough to see a horse on the grounds, for example).

Spruce Meadows is open year-round for Tournaments (competitions and the like) and you can find the schedule for all Tournaments on the site.  In addition to that, Spruce Meadows is also home to many exhibits and entertainment for visitors, and it was packed full of those on the day we visited in June.  They even hold weddings on the grounds.
