Just like dinner, everyone gets tired of the same-old go-to snacks. In the video above, Registered Dietician Zannat Reza and TV Chef & Author Christine Cushing shares some great ideas for snacks for summer picnics and road trips!
We’re going on a road trip next weekend to a family wedding, so this came at a great time. While it’s easy to reach for pre-packaged foods from the pantry, fresh is always better so I’m going to incorporate some of the tips from the video.
Do you have some favorite picnic or road trip snacks? I’d love to hear them, we all need ideas (and headphones…headphones for road trips are a good thing…)
great idea ! ty
We freeze grapes and eat them in the car. It’s a nice refreshing snack!
My husband needs Nibs on road trips, which seems strange to me. I always loved the trail mix that my Dad used to make for road trips with sesame seeds, dried bananas, chocolate chip, nuts and a couple other things- yummy! (Hope your road trip goes better than mine just did- eek!)
I freeze smoothies in ice cube trays. Pop them into travel drink containers and they help to keep the other food cool while they thaw.
We like dried fruit for snacks on the go!
sliced veggies, such as carrots, celery and bell peppers.
Dried fruit always works, sometimes we make our own trail mix and they are easy and healthy on the go.
We like dried fruit and trail mix.
even on on our long trips back in Britain we would just make a few sandwiches, and chocolate
I always do a small cooler for the kids, they have their own container with snacks, usually fruit packs, couple juice boxes, I like the ready made carrots or celery with the dip containers they enjoy eating them. and of course some junk treats.
I like jicama
Our favorite road snack is the plain jane POPCORN
We like the Ritz Bits crackers that have the cheese filling.
We slice some veggies, and then offer special treats that are road trip only (slushies from gas station are THE thing right now).
We try not to eat in the car if possible. Stopping along the way to have a picnic allows everyone to stretch their legs a bit – I pack sandwiches, fruit and trail mix. Of course, lots of water! Some other great tips here – thanks everyone!
We like baby carrots for a snack.
Love this! I love trail mix type snacks! Great for trips on the road and so much cheaper than buying junk food!
Great ideas, the last road trip we took I accidentally packed all of our snacks in the trunk. oops!
My kids love trail mix and fresh fruits for snacks in the summertime! I love the tip about making your own trail mix to limit the sugar and salt!
Any fresh fruit – pineapple chunks, grapes and strawberries are my favourites!
dried fruit is great. I will also make a double batch of healthy muffins and freeze them, they are great on the go
I get tired of the same old stuff too.. we pack a little cooler and we can take things like fresh fruits/yogurts etc.. we generally take goldfish/fresh veggies like cukes and celery, popcorn, cheesies & we totally avoid “crumbly” things like cakes/muffins/tarts/pies etc.
Love making up creative trail mixes to take along as snacks!
Those easy snacks and put-them-in-the-basket-and-let’s-hit-the-road- type fruits for summer picnics and road trips are just great! We’d usually put those watermelon slices or strawberries with crushed ice in a handy cooler and they’re just so refreshing when you hit your favorite picnic spot. And the kids love them!
Good ideas! We usually end up eating goldfish so this is good variety!
Very good idea! I like the fact you can really customize the mix to your own tastes!
Thanks for sharing
