Most times I can sit down at the computer with my coffee and just start writing my thoughts, when beginning a review. Other times, like today, I am so overwhelmed by how much I want to show you and tell you about a company that I don’t know where to start!
The Creative Individual is a Canadian company specializing in, well, graphic design for your house! It’s the best way I can word it, without adding too many adjectives! What makes The Creative Individual distinct is that aside from regular Wall Art, they also have paste up murals. Murals. The whole thing. On your wall. Really!!!
When I was pregnant with my first baby, I saw a picture of a wall mural that someone had done in their nursery. I decided, in my pregnant and not-thinking-things-through-clearly head that I was going to paint a mural on my baby’s wall. I envisioned rolling hills of grass, a large tree in the corner complete with birds and bunnies and flowers in the grass (much like the mural above from The Creative Individual). What I refused to acknowledge was the fact that I have no artistic talent whatsoever beyond stick-men. Thankfully, I came to my senses when it was time to paint the room and went with a basic color. Blah. It was boring but saved me from the disaster that was sure to result in a very pregnant me crying on the nursery floor covered in paint and muttering something about bunnies.
Had I known about Paste-Up Murals then, I would have been all over it! The website details how big the pieces are in measurements of course, but also in a basic photo so you can see ‘about’ how big it really is. You can mix and match the Paste Up Murals with Pop-Ups to create a unique display. Pop-Ups are smaller pieces of Wall Art that can quite literally pop-up anywhere on your wall and look like they really belong there.
This is my favorite Paste-Up Mural from The Creative Individual, titled “Thru The Wall Castle”. This would be excellent on a feature wall, and really just adding in a basic brown toned paint on the rest of the wall would give you a nice blended image.
Add to it this Unicorn Pop-Up on an opposite wall, and you’ve got tons of storytelling potential.
We got to try two sets of Pop-Ups in our household, the 2 Monkeys Pop-Ups and the POKAdots Pop-Ups.
I debated putting them in the kid’s rooms but they’re much too fun to be hidden away in there. The 2 Monkeys are perfect for our play area because we have a shelf that only goes up halfway on the wall so the image of a little monkey peeking from behind it is adorable (even when there are toys from one end to the other…”Hey everyone, look at that monkey!”)
The POKAdots make me smile (ok, smirk) because I remember seeing a friend’s nursery after she attempted to make her own polka-dot pattern on the wall. The idea was adorable, but the end result was….er…not. The circles were done freehand and the result was a wobbly line and something that resembled amoeba more than dots. POKAdots would have been the way to go here.
Both of the Pop-Ups are easy to apply, just place where you want them to go, peel off the protective layer, and tada!! A squeegee is recommended to help make sure there are no air bubbles, but a credit card can do the trick nicely.
This is an example from the website of how you can layer different colors of POKAdots to create a really fun effect on walls!
The Creative Individual has generously offered a set of the 2 Monkeys Pop-Ups to one very lucky winner ($49.99 USD).
