At the Hollywood premiere for the eagerly-anticipated Hunger Games, the red carpet served up plenty of fashionable fare. Stars of the film—including Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks and Josh Hutcherson—dazzled the fans that turned out for the event with fab clothes and chic hairstyles. Since Joico served as the official hair sponsor for the film, and Joico Artist Cherry Petenbrink served as colorist of choice, it seemed appropriate to turn to Cherry and Joico International Creative Director Damien Carney for the H.G. red carpet insights and how-tos.
The star: Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen)
Her red carpet style: Gilded braided twist.
Get the look: Prepare clean, damp hair with a medium hold mousse like Joico K-PAK Thermal Design Foam, advises Cherry. Blow dry the hair with a large, round brush to create volume and movement. Isolate the front fringe and hairline section. Divide the back from ear to ear along the occipital bone. Clip away the top half. Gather the bottom half into a loose, low ponytail and secure it at the nape. Divide the pony in half and twist the subsections to form a loose braid. Wrap the braid around the base of the ponytail and secure with pins. Release the top section, twist it loosely, work it into the braided bun and secure with pins. Release the front sections and allow them to gently frame the face. Mist with Joico K-PAK Protective Hairspray to secure the twist and repel flyaways. Weave decorative ribbon through the braids.
The star: Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Melark)
His red carpet style: Modern screen idol.
Get the look: This clean, polished look is a throwback to film idols like Cary Grant and Gary Cooper, comments Damien. “The short, squared off back and sides create a powerful facial shape,” he says. A masculine look like this requires products that control without stiffness. The goal is hair that looks clean and shiny, not overloaded without product. Start by shampooing and conditioning hair with Joico Smooth Cure Shampoo and Conditioner. “This combination makes the hair easy to comb and eliminates fluffiness,‟ Damien explains. Then create a slightly imperfect side part, work in about four drops of Joico K-PAK Color Therapy Restorative Styling Oil and comb through.
The star: Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket)
Her red carpet style: Swept-up bob.
Get the look: Prepare hair with Joico Body Luxe Shampoo and Conditioner, advises Cherry. Spray roots with Joico Body Luxe Root Lift, and apply a few drops of Joico K-PAK Color Therapy Restorative Styling Oil to hair lengths. Blow hair dry with a large round brush lifting at the scalp and front hairline. Once dry, section hair, mist each section with Joico K-PAK Protective Hairspray and set on large Velcro rollers. After 10 minutes, remove the rollers. Section the hair from temple to temple, lightly backcomb the top section and secure it with pins just below the crown.

I read the book last spring and then the other two shortly after. I was pretty excited to see the movie and my husband and I went to see it the day it came out (in the afternoon) since we had the day off and it was SOOOOoooo good! We both like it a lot. I hope they come out with the other two books in movies too!
