T-Fal Optisteam Garment Steamer

The Optisteam Garment Steamer from T-Fal (the first steamer from this company) is just being shipped to stores right now!  I was fortunate to receive one just last week, in time for Father’s Day.  One might think that a gift like this is more of a gift for me, but no.  You see, my husband went through a boot-camp of sorts for his current career, and he learned precisely how to iron his pants and shirts (and sheets for that matter) at the time.  Since that point, I have left the ironing in our household up to him (yay me, right?)  So, this is definitely a gift for him. The thing is, it’s pretty cool and I’ve been having some fun with it so maybe I’ll give in and start steaming his uniforms again.

Years ago, I worked in retail and loved the clothing steamer that we used in the store.  It was a professional one, of course, and years later when I tried another garment steamer purchased at a department store I was really disappointed!  It didn’t get the wrinkles out, felt light and didn’t heat up as much as the one I had used at work (I returned it).

The T-Fal Optisteam is  just like the professional steamer I used years ago!  It’s sturdy, has a clear water tank so you know exactly how much water you have, and it heats up in 60 seconds to high heat.  The garment hangers are awesome – they support the clothing well so it isn’t swaying around or threatening to make the steamer tip like a cheap model would.  With the second clothing hanger further down that can be adjusted to the perfect height, it’s possible to steam a 2 piece outfit at the same time.

Other features that make this product stand out are the touch-controls right in the handle (no need to use your foot!) and the sleek design making it store easily.  The hanger-top actually twists vertically so you can roll the steamer into a closet for easy storage.  We keep ours in the laundry room and it’s easy to tuck into a corner.
