Most of us across this country are spending the holidays in our own household bubble, and that means we’ll be looking for ways to entertain and stimulate our brains, outside of a screen (side note, I’m a big fan of screens so I need to take breaks too, and board games, puzzles, or card games are one of the ways I do it!)
Here are more games to consider for your family:
Carcassonne (2-5 players, Ages 7+)
Carcassonne is the perfect introduction to the modern world of board games. With its simple rules (place a tile, place a meeple, score points), beautifully illustrated tiles, and iconic components, this modern classic should be part of everyone’s collection.
Catan (2-4 players, Ages 10+)
In Catan (formerly The Settlers of Catan), players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. On each turn dice are rolled to determine what resources the island produces. Players collect these resources (cards)—wood, grain, brick, sheep, or stone—to build up their civilizations to get to 10 victory points and win the game. ToysRUs.ca ($69.99)
Dixit (3-6 players, Ages 8+)
The pictures are revealed…only one of them is the answer.
Each player at his turn plays the storyteller. He is given a single picture, while the other players get a hand of six pictures.
The storyteller says a sentence or a word connected to his picture, then each player chooses one of his pictures to bet upon. All pictures are showed face up, and every player have to bet upon what picture was the storyteller’s. ToysRUs.ca ($49.99)
Azul: Stained Glass Of Sintra (2-4 players, Ages 8+)
Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra challenges players to carefully select glass panes to complete their windows while being careful not to damage or waste supplies in the process. The window panels are double-sided, providing players with a dynamic player board that affords nearly infinite variability. ToysRUs.ca ($49.99)
