There’s something that happens to your brain when you turn forty. Unlike thirty, when you’re in the midst of weddings, diapers, and new home ownership – forty finds you in a place of giving no care about things that might have stressed you out a decade ago. Priorities change, and I’ve noticed some common themes among my forty-ish friends. They are less likely to invite or deal with drama from years past and more likely to determine what they will and won’t allow to take up their thoughts. They’re satisfied that their kids have their own interests, activities and friends and suddenly, for the first time in well over a decade, they’ve found time to finally focus on themselves. Forty is an awakening, and a reckoning.
In the past year or so after turning forty, I’ve realized that there are certain things that are non-negotiable in my life and each has contributed to fostering a healthy, and happy lifestyle. Maybe sharing them here will spark an idea for your own lifestyle change (whether you’re twenty, thirty, forty or more!) and if you have anything that has helped in your own life, I’d love to hear it too!
Beyond having no time for drama, I’ve filled that space with something new in my life – a focus on fitness and health. Up until just two years ago, I had not actually exercised on purpose since I was in school. I was fortunate to have endured three pregnancies with minimal weight gain but what crept up on me was a few extra pounds every few years until suddenly I had an extra 25 pounds and I was yawning at 9pm. Change doesn’t happen overnight. I used an app to track my food intake, bought a fitness tracker to track my steps, and used another app to literally teach me how to run minute by minute. Other new things in my life include weight training and hot yoga. Not only do these new changes help trim my waistline; they also help contribute to a healthy glow in my skin!
It’s an unavoidable truth that at forty you can’t ignore skin care. As with many things related to your health, prevention is key! Why wouldn’t you do things to help prevent premature aging and wrinkles, rather than work to treat or fix your skin after the fact? It’s this realization that has made me keen to try new skin care products whenever I see something that is new, innovative or interesting. This month, I’m trying L’Oréal Revitalift Cicacream for the first time. It’s infused with Centella Asiatica (aka Tiger Grass), a plant from ancient Chinese Medicine, used for centuries as one the world’s natural remedies for wrinkles. It helps promote the formation of collagen and elastic fibers which are essential for skin elasticity.
Yes, it fights wrinkles you already have (I won’t tell) and resists future signs of aging. AND, it’s the 1st mass-market anti-aging cream certified by the Canadian Dermatology Association. It’s a great choice for anyone to try because not only is it paraben-free; it’s also fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin.
I’ve been using Revitalift Cicacream for 2 weeks now, and like what I see. The cream goes on light and smooth with no greasy after-feel. It absorbs quickly and leaves my skin feeling smooth, moisturized and fresh. Kind of like how a thirty minute cardio session followed by a hydrating bottle of water leaves my body feeling charged and ready for the day ahead. One is a heck of a lot easier to do than the other but both have great results. I’d suggest this to anyone looking for a light, fresh, skin cream to try – it’s budget friendly too!

ok this is something that I need! I have yet to try this but definitely a big fan of L’Oreal and hey…my skin is not getting any younger….although with something like this i can make it look that way 🙂
In my mid 30’s now and I have been using the same moisturizer for almost 10 years. I should probably look into finding something a little more age and wrinkle appropriate! Thank you for the product suggestion.
Too true that 40ish brings about an attitude you wish you could have had in your teens!

Since hitting my forties, I have continued to be very careful about my skincare. My fitness and health? Not so much…And the extra few pounds have creeped on. So, this year is devoted to getting on track. Hopefully, I will match your success.

Great reminders and sounds like a pretty effective product.
I am heading to my mid 40’s (how did that happen?)…guess I should really start looking after the little things a bit more…including trying to stop those wrinkles!
I wish I would have taken better care of my skin. It is nice to see so many great products being developed to protect your skin.
Sounds terrific – I know me though and I’m lucky if I remember to wash my face every night never mind other products!
