Celebrate Canada 150 With These Family Friendly Picks

July 1st is really just days away and it’s evident stepping into almost any store that Canada 150 is a big deal – everyone is celebrating! I’ve purchased the plates and cups and patio decor already and am looking forward to a robust Canada Day celebration. As a mom of 3 kids, I want to ensure that my smallest party guests have some Canada-themed fun too, and this year I found everything I needed at Showcase!

Known as the home of the hottest trends, Showcase stores are packed full of items that are hot, hot, hot! If something is trending or going viral, chances are that Showcase carries it in store and online. They even have the hottest toys with Canada 150 themes added on, ready and waiting!

Here’s what we found at Showcase, and shared at Global News Morning Regina!

The EH Game $19.99

Available exclusively at Showcase, The EH Game takes the trend of mouth-piece games (think: Watch Yo Mouth) and adds a canoe-load of Canadian themed phrases to the fun. Players take turns reading the phrases with the mouthpiece in, while teammates try and guess what the heck they’re saying. Appropriate for ages 8+, this game will add a ton of fun to any Canada Day party and beyond.

Slow Rise Squishy 5.5″ Canadian Flag Cake ($19.99)

This super cute squishy looks exactly like a freshly made cake! Proudly sporting the Canadian flag, this Squishy has been specially made to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday celebration. With a soft and super slow rising effect, it’s sure to ‘kawaii’ up anything! Plus they’re extra fun to squish & squeeze – this one also smells like cherries!

Beanie Boos – 6″ Nanook Nanuq ($6.99)

Another Showcase exclusive, this Beanie Boo can only be found at Showcase stores and ShopAtShowcase.com! If you have Beanie Boo collectors like I do, grab this cutie before he’s gone. Nanook Nanuq (which means Cute Polar Bear in Inuit) is the cutest and most lovable polar bear cub around! Proud to be Canadian, Nanook’s red scarf shows off the signature colours of the Great White North with a Maple leaf to boot! His birthday is even July 1st, how much more Canadian could he be?

Jitter Box Focus Toy ($12.99)

Yes, Fidget Spinners (see below) are THE big deal, but coming up behind it are Jitter/Fidget Boxes. I LOVE this. While I can’t quite spin my Jitter Spinner like my kids can, there’s something so satisfying about clicking, sliding, and clicking some more with this product.

Focused Fidgeting:

  • Spin: A rotating dial.
  • Click: The “dice” side, with 3 buttons that depress to click audibly
    and 2 that push silently.
  • Roll: A trio of tactical gears, plus a clickable ball and socket.
  • Glide: A joystick that coasts across the surface.
  • Breathe: Modeled after worry stones for rubbing to relieve anxiety
  • Switch: A classic toggler.

The Switch? My favorite. Click click click click.

Jitter Spin Canada 150 ($12.99)

Yes, the ever so popular Jitter Fidget Spinner is all decked out for Canada 150 and that $12.99 price is amazing (I paid the regular price of $29.99 about a month ago!) Fidget toys like the Jitter Spin Fidget Spinner are increasingly being turned to as a simple, low-cost means of reducing stress and anxiety. The fiddle-friendly gadgets can also help address symptoms associated with ADD/ADHD, Autism, nail biting, hair twirling, and leg bouncing. Serving as grounding tools for excess energy, fidget toys like Jitter Spin may also help increase your focus and attention.
