Over the weekend, I caught up on my favorite new show in 2016 – This Is Us. Have you seen it or heard the buzz about it yet? It takes place, bouncing back and forth, between the 1980’s and today. Covering a 30+ year spread one would think things could get confusing, but the writing is so amazing that it hits all the right notes at all the right times. The premiere left the audience with a jaw-dropping smile at the end, and every episode since has helped to continue that awe.
What is it about shows like This Is Us, The Goldberg’s, and even That 70’s Show that makes audiences love them so much? Aside from the great writing, of course it’s all about nostalgia. The set design, clothing and music take us back to a different time in our lives, a simpler time perhaps, and for that half hour or hour of TV time, we escape back into it.
In the same way we escape into a TV episode, sometimes a nostalgic toy can take us back to our childhoods, which makes it really fun when we find them in stores for gift-giving. It allows parents and kids to share something in a very unique way (I can’t tell you how happy it makes me when my girls play with MY childhood Barbies!)
In the spirit of the goodness and fun that nostalgia from our childhood brings us, here’s a fun giveaway from our friends at Toys R Us!

Ha, I must be old, I’ve never even heard of the Powerpuff Girls! I love that feeling of nostalgia you talk about – that 70s show, Mad Men, The Wonder Years and Pan Am (so sad it was cancelled!) all made me feel nostalgic (although most of them were eras before my time, I still felt the connection because of my parents and grandparents). I keep hearing about This Is Us and really want to check it out. I was a kid in the 80s, so I think I will connect with it. And I’ve just heard so many good things about it.

I love Trivia Pursuit. Endless fun on a cold winter night.
Wow! Funny I was just talking about Power Puff Girls the other day to my oldest daughter as we were talking about when she was younger. Trivial Pursuit was definitely a game that I had growing up and loved the Entertainment Category. The Rubiks Cube was very challenging. LOL
