While the household surrounding me has certainly changed, one aspect of preparing for the holidays remains constant. Every year, the Sears Wishbook arrives and by December 25th, it’s pages are tatted, dog-eared and more after countless read-throughs. When I was little, my household only consisted of myself and my parents, my older siblings having moved away. The Sears Wishbook gave me countless hours of planning, dreaming, and sometimes yes begging if I found items that I absolutely could not live without.
Now, my household full with my husband and three children, the Sears Wishbook is still part of our story. When it arrives, the kids know this is prime time. This is the time to grab the Sears Wishbook and stow away in their bedroom, the basement, or kitchen table (wherever the liklihood is that another sibling won’t interrupt them) and determine what is at the very top of their wish list. A marker is essential, and if a parent can’t determine which kid circled the item, sometimes a name is added for utmost attention and direction. Do our kids get everything on their wish lists? Of course not. But as trends, likes, obsessions and wishes change, it sure helps to have a parent-helper when Santa is so busy during the holidays.
While my kids have weeks ahead of them to create their lists, I made mine quite quickly flipping through the Sears Wishbook recently. Here are my Top 10 Sears Wishbook items for 2016 (I hope my hubby is paying attention!):
1) Wholehome Chunky Knit Throw ($39.97)
2) Alpinetek Long Down Parka ($129.97)
3) Gunther Mele Jewellery Organizer With Glass Lid ($59.99)

10) Alpinetek Women’s Packable Down Vest ($39.97)
That didn’t take me long at all, which is a good thing since the Sears Wishbook is often hidden in someone’s bedroom or under a cushion for safekeeping!

That Christmas Wishbook was like a direct connection to Santa, because we told our kids that Santa could get anything that was in that book. All they had to do was pick out their favorite things and make a list and then write him a letter. They would go over and over each page until the list was narrowed down a bit.It was the best book ever!!
We have always enjoyed looking through the catalogue.
