When I had my first child in 2004, I wanted to have everything. The crib furniture that had a matching blanket that I later realized we couldn’t use so we hung on the wall, the matching change table, all the devices and toys for my baby. As baby #2 and #3 came along, I was less concerned with having things and more concerned with getting through the days and nights.
An item I had with my first, and then didn’t with the others was the Playtex Diaper Genie. I don’t have a concrete reason on why I didn’t use it later because it worked quite well at the time. Asked to review the Diaper Genie Elite, I passed it along to my friend Sarah who has a little guy who is almost 1 year old. Being her second child, she too wasn’t using a diaper disposal system. My wife and I are expecting our second child in February. We have never had what you would call an “iron clad” diaper disposal system; it has literally been the same as Sarah, where we put them in the bathroom trash until the stink in the bin is so deeply engrained that it won’t come out no matter what cleaning agent you try. Superman’s laser vision couldn’t eradicate the old diaper stink.
Compounding the issue is the fact that no one likes to be the one to bag and remove that mess. But because I am the father in the equation and my contributions are limited by nature the task almost always either falls to me or I ignore it and upset my beautiful, patient, (usually) loving (unless the trash bin stinks too badly) wife. And when one of us gets up in the middle of the night to feed or change the young tyke, the last thing we will want to be greeted by is diaper stank; it’s so hard to get out of your nostrils we might never get back to sleep.
And as I said, this is our second. Our youngest is approaching the age where she’s definitely going to start playing with/throwing those soiled devil-shorts around for her own amusement if they aren’t secured by Diaper Genie’s child-foiling technological mastery.
From a selfish perspective: I am also a person who enjoys the delicate art of nosing and tasting fine whisky. And that’s a tough thing to do when all you can smell is the petulant reek of aged human waste trapped by fabric and chemical. FOR THE SAKE OF MY OLFACTORY SENSES, Tenile, you must see fit to provide us with a Diaper Genie. Such a fine, smell-saving product as this could be (not necessarily) life-changing (but definitely most welcome) for our small family.

The whole family hopes we get to review this diaper genie because we’re all so sick of smelling stinky diapers. I would be the one to write the review however I would write it on behalf of myself (Mom), my boyfriend (Dad) and our oldest daughter.
We have been using the diaper genie since we had our twins that are now almost 10 months old… that’s a lot of poop and a lot of diapers. The diaper genie is easy to use and when you are emptying it almost daily (remember twins) it is nice to have something that is quick and easy to change. We just buy the playtex refills, they aren’t that much more than the cheaper brand and unlike the cheaper brand the playtex refill fits better in the genie and the bag has a nice little blue stripe that shows up when you are almost done. If you don’t feel like running to Toys R Us to get a larger box of refills (best price in town) then you can always just order refills on Amazon.ca… and they are delivered right to your door.
I would say if you aren’t going the cloth diaper route and want an easy way to get rid of disposables this is a must have.
