It’s back for another year! If you’re already a fan, you know the goodness that Rice Krispies #TreatsForToys brings to the community, but if not here’s a quick debriefing on everything you and your little elves need to know before you get started.
In it’s third year, the Treats for Toys initiative asks families across Canada to make a Rice Krispies cereal toy-shaped treat, then upload it to social media (Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram) making sure to use the #TreatsForToys hashtag. For every photo uploaded with the hashtag, $20 is donated to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army will then use these funds to purchase toys for kids in need this holiday season. Amazing right?
We’ve been a part of this program for three years now, and dare I say I think we’re getting better at creating Rice Krispies toy-shaped treats? Here’s our 2012 Race Car attempt, and last year we made a robot and a princess!
Your family can make as many treats as you like! It’s true! Every upload of photo of a Rice Krispies toy-shaped treat means $20 for the Salvation Army to buy toys for kids in need, so the more treats you make and show-off, the better!
This year, we made an Elf! I think it may have started off as a robot but that’s besides the point. ๐
It was actually quite easy since we just cut our Rice Krispies cake into squares once it had set, then used toothpicks to attach the legs to the body and so on. Icing is always the best part, and then we used candy to decorate him! He looks mischievous don’t you think?
I shared on Instagram, Facebook AND Twitter this morning – yes, our Elf is working hard for the money and we’re happy to help!
Every year we fill a homemade bag filled with things for a child or woman for Christmas, from clothing, to toiletries to toys to games to food. It is donated to a local womanโs shelter.
A wonderful fun way to participate in a charity!
Wow,what a job on the toy,we love to donate to a needy family every year around the holiday season
Does it have to be made with the holiday Rice Krispies or could we make it out of regular ones. I love that this is a way to raise money for a cause kids care about that the kids can actually do a lot of the work to raise the money.
This is an excellent initiative! Fun for everyone and for a great cause!
That looks like a lot of fun for a great cause!
This is an excellent, wheat-free idea! We’re going to do this!
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
My kids always enjoying participating in The Angel Tree. They each pick an angel off of the tree and buy a gift for a needy child that is described on the angel.
This is such a great idea. My kids would love the dual purpose.
This is such a great cause! Always love seeing what you and your family decide to create ๐
Great cause and fun for the kiddos! Gotta love Kellogg’s!
Great cause.. I love making them with my kids, so much fun.
We have the Empty Stocking fund in our town, and where I work, we make up baskets for needy families during the holidays.
I think this is a great idea and love the robot.
