Do you remember a time in your youth when you really felt a call for change? When a social movement struck you and inspired you to do something? Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s I can think of several songs that inspired me. Do They Know It’s Christmas? by Band Aid was released in 1984 led by Bob Geldof, helped raise awareness and much needed funds to fight African hunger. It spurned follow up songs in Canada (Tears Are Not Enough) and the US (We Are The World). Amazing right? I know the chorus of all the songs are in your head now!
Music speaks to all generations, but certainly those who are growing up, shaping who they are, and determining how they will fit into the world outside their doors. We Day clearly gets this and has been hugely successful in bringing together musical artists and activists and presenting them to youth across North America in a way that speaks to them, in their own language.
Francesco Yates has teamed up with TELUS and MTV to remix his hit song ‘Call’ to create the social anthem for this generation! If you haven’t heard the original, here you go:
Now is your chance to join the #CallForChange and be a part of Francesco Yates’ new music video by sharing a video of yourself singing, dancing or playing along to the chorus of ‘Call.’ Upload your video to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #CallForChange to submit.
TELUS will donate $10 to Free The Children for every video shared, but you don’t have long! The submission window is from September 8-20th. Here are some tips to get the perfect #CallForChange video submission:
1. Use your phone or camera, the higher quality the better!
2. Don’t wear any logos or brands on your clothing
3. Get creative and be colourful!
4. And most importantly – have fun! TELUS wants to see your personality shine through
Francesco Yates’ will perform the #CallForChange at each stop of the Canadian We Day tour, where the new music video will be featured, starting October 1st in Toronto!
I think this is another perfect union! TELUS is passionate about motivating young minds to create change through the power of technology. We have seen over and over how technology gives people a voice and an audience. With the help of Canadians we can create a social anthem that will inspire youth to change the world!
