A year after moving, I’m still mourning the loss of my mom cave. In our previous house, we had completely redone a bedroom to create an office space that was all my own. Dark laminate flooring, pastel blue walls, and a beautiful corner desk called to me. The best part was that it had a door I could close! Working from home has its challenges and I loved a space to call my own.

Since moving, we have been living in an unfinished basement with the promise that my office space will exist down there when complete. I have resigned to using my living room as my space which is great, but there’s no door and the kids keep plopping themselves beside me on the sofa and turning on the TV.

So, I will venture outside onto my deck, which also happens to be a work in progress right now. Still, I love being outside in the summer, so this is definitely my favorite space.

I’ve been flipping through Pinterest boards, reading magazines and finding inspiration everywhere. This is exactly what I’m looking for in my Mom Cave. A bright, cheery space to call my own that doesn’t look like it’s an afterthought in the corner of the rec room. The bookshelf would look a lot more cluttered with books and photos, but otherwise I’d like to pick up everything in this photo and put it in my house – if only it were that easy.
