The holiday season certainly makes us take stock of our blessings and celebrate those we hold dear both near and far. This year, while you’re busy preparing the household for guests, buying groceries and making delicious meals and wrapping gifts to put under the tree – consider adding one more gift to your list.
I have.
UNICEF Survival Gifts are a very easy way for you to take a moment and give to those in need this holiday season. By visiting UNICEF Canada Survival Gifts you can look through over 60 life-saving items available for purchase to help children around the world. And it doesn’t take much money either. They even have a section with Gifts Under $20 so that families can give even if their own budget is tight. I also love this section for kids – they can use their own birthday or allowance money to give a gift to another child.
I purchased 6 blankets for babies for just $22, and it only took me a few minutes. You simply choose the gift and add it to your card, register for an account, and check out using your credit card online. Minutes later you receive an official tax receipt in your email.
Other gifts I found while browsing:
Plumpy’Nut ($10 for 42 Packs) – Boost a malnourished child’s chance of survival with this therapeutic, peanut-based food. Approximately three packets a day will help a malnourished child gain up to two pounds in one week, promoting health and well-being.
Therapeutic Milk ($20 for 25 packs) – Provide fifty glasses of milk for children – a necessity at emergency feeding centres, refugee camps and hospitals. Added vegetable fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals make this gift a lifesaver for malnourished children.
Bed Net ($9 for 2) – In Africa, one in six child deaths is due to malaria. This insecticide-treated bed net is a simple and effective way to save previous lives.
You can see everything available at the UNICEF Survival Gifts!
We actually did this for our son’s tutor as she really is someone who does not want anything. As she is an educator we went with an education themed gift. Wonderful.
This is something I’d really love to do.
We have all done this for a member of the family so that everyone is represented. It is our way to help others.
very nice indeed
My daughter went to Ecuador to help children there. The need is great world wide even in Canada and the U.S.
This is amazing, such a good idea.
sarnia has a lot of seniors so i do free household repairs when I can and If i am qualified. always feels good to give back
what a fabulous thing to do
This is an awesome way to give back, I would rather do this for someone in need over there, inatead of spending tons of money for something that would get thrown into the closet and never looked at, I am going to go and check this out. I don’t have much money myself, but it’s going to make me feel good knowing someone is going to appreciate it!!
A wonderful thing to do!
We find that doing this for the people in our lives who help us lots, but refuse anything in return, is a wonderful way to express our appreciation and is a win-win for everyone
3 years ago (almost to the date), my brother passed away. At that time I sponsored a young boy in his memory. I still sponsor that child.
We have four sponsored kids, one for each of ours.
Thank you fr the great ideas!
This is an amazing initiative….some people opt to not receive any gifts so this would be something you can do on their behalf. Thanks for posting this…it will come in handy for sure!
This is wonderful, such a good idea.
