By Tara Richter…
I love to paint; in fact when I first moved into my condo I could hardly wait to transform the space from the drab taupe walls to something with a bit of bold colour. For me, the downside to painting is the mess of preparation and cleaning up. So many times I would be up stairs painting, only to realize that I needed some random item that was somewhere in the basement. Or worse, when I had something to do mid project and was left with trying to figure out how to keep the brushes from drying out until I returned. How nice would it be if everything could fit into one easy to store and carry container?
Well that solution has finally come true through the Made-in-Canada Roll & Stow: the storage, transport and anti-drying unit all in one! From the pictures on the box, it certainly looked like it would solve my problem of storing all my odds and ends painting supplies, but I was still a bit sceptical. I went on a scavenger hunt for all my random painting and wall prep items and dumped them onto the living room floor. I figured there was no way it would all fit into this slim and sleek container, but I gave it a try and one by one I placed each item in the Roll & Stow.
The moment of truth came in placing the lid on and locking the sides down. Scepticism quickly turned into astonishment as all my supplies easily fit into the Roll & Stow. The only items that didn’t fit were the caulking gun and bottles of silicon caulking. When I thought about it, they didn’t really belong with the painting supplies anyway. The convenient ergonomic handle makes the carrying & transport of all the supplies easy and storage of all the painting supplies is in one organized location.
I really like the well thought out design of the container. All the little edges, lips, and crevices are intentional and meant to accommodate different size/types of paint trays, paint cans and containers. The fact that a person was supposed to place a paint tray on wheels was a bit surprising to me, however the Roll & Stow is designed NOT to roll away while loading paint, yet the wheels easily move over carpet, drop-cloth or hard surfaces.
A feature I know I will repeatedly use is the one for storing wet brushes and paint rollers in times I just can’t finish a project. Following the instructions and placing the brush & roller in the provided space will keep paint from drying out for up to a week! Now that is convenient!
While the notches, groves and edges appear to be set up just perfect for all your painting needs, the Roll & Stow need not be limited JUST to painting supplies. It can also be used for pails of water for washing the floor or the car. In fact you could use the Roll & Stow to organize and store just about anything you can imagine. It would be perfect for storing cloths, soap, & sponges for indoor or outdoor cleaning projects, garden tools, household tools, and so on. The possibilities are really endless. The Roll & Stow is also designed to neatly stack on top of one another, making it easy to keep all your supplies organized and easy to find. The website offers some great little instructional videos and tips for using your Roll & Stow including how to accommodate for different types of paint trays, how to pack it up, and other tips and tricks for painters.
Roll & Stow available to purchase in Canada at Home Hardware for approximately $41.99. For the painters on your Christmas list, or for anyone who needs a bit of help getting organized, the Row and Stow makes the perfect gift this holiday season!
