I don’t know about you, but it happened to me just a few weeks ago. That itchy dry skin feeling on my face. It was delayed this year thanks to an exceptional fall, but once the cool, crisp, wind started to blow, my face responded with a few red patches in protest.
Your skin changes throughout the year as a reaction to many factors, climate being a big one. It’s no surprise, then, that your skin routine needs to change throughout the year as well. While the summer months mean warm, moist weather and skin, the fall and winter months mean cool, dry weather and yes…dry skin.
The Live Clean Fresh Face collection shares an impressive lineup of products specifically for, you guessed it, your face. During the fall and winter, cleansing routines change and Live Clean offers some tips to perfect your cleansing routine:
The Cleansing Top 10:
1. Before you touch your face…choose the right product, which means a facial cleanser that’s mild and free of potentially irritating ingredients. (The same ingredients – the surfactants and preservatives that are harmful to the earth – can be irritating to your face. Live Clean has you covered.)
2. Wash your hands. Seriously, wash your hands, don’t just wet them and grab for the facial cleanser.
3. Lukewarm means lukewarm. Yes, we know hot water feels good, but it can strip your skin of essential oils and cause irritation.
4. Lightly massage a dime-sized amount of your cleanser on damp skin. That’s all you need.
5. Exfoliation isn’t excavation; a washcloth is going to give your skin a little extra cleansing on a daily basis. Save the high-speed cleansing brush for occasional use.
6. Don’t forget your hairline, jawline and the sides of your face. And when you rinse, pay extra attention to these areas – breakouts in these areas can be the result of poor cleansing or cleanser residue.
7. Rinse, rinse, rinse. Still rinsing? Good!
8. Pat (we mean it, pat) your skin dry with a soft, clean towel. A towel a day helps keep blemishes away.
9. Leave your skin slightly damp and apply moisturizer immediately. A long lasting, deeply hydrating moisturizer is best, especially as we move into colder months. (We’re partial to Live Clean 24 Hour Hydrating Day Cream, of course…)
10. Facial wipes? Choose one that’s soft, alcohol-free. And gently, please. Gently!
These are great tips, and I realized I’m making a few errors in my routine now. Now that I’ve got some fabulous new Live Clean Fresh Face products to try, I can’t wait to pamper my skin this fall. In fact, I was so excited about these new products, I asked Live Clean if I could share them, and they said yes!
FIVE of our readers are going to win a Live Clean Fresh Face prize pack consisting of the items in the photo above: Hydrating Creamy Cleanser, 24 Hour Hydrating Day Cream and Refreshing Facial Wipes. To enter to win, just use the Rafflecopter form below!
I really don’t have a routine & at my age I should
They are all great tips and it appears that I have been doing a few things wrong. I tend to use hot water thinking it would help to open my pores and I do use more than a dime size amount of moisturizing. Guess I should change things a bit!
It is good to know I have to Pat my face after rinsing, as opposed to wiping. I never thought about doing that before.
All wonderful tips! I have a routine for me but what I find I need to find a good lineof products that I can use daily on my sensitive skin. These products would be great to try.
great tips! I must admit I am a bit harsh in my routine – need to be more gentle!!
I have a night and day routine. Night time I take off my make up with a “make up” remover. Then use a cleanser to cleanse my face. Then I moisturize with a night time moisturizer.
They are all great and important tips and I follow them all! Yay!
Pretty much what I do, although I sometimes don’t rinse as well as I should. Or change my face towel everyday. Good tips and products. Thanks
I don’t usually put my moisturizer on damp skin, I’ll have to try it! Yes, I definitely have a routine, even if I can’t do anything else, I always moisturize.
I do this but add in a toner and serum into the routine and a facial sponge instead of a washcloth.
I knew a lot of the tips but some were new to me. I will certainly be following all of them now and adding them to my routine.
I’ve heard the tip to “Leave your skin slightly damp and apply moisturizer immediately”. I must admit it is something I’ve heard that helps your moisturizer absorb more fully but I’ve never tried it.
Geez! I have so much to learn. I think I only do #9. Shame on me! 🙁
I don’t tend to follow all of these tips and I don’t use a cleanser/toner, but I do leave my face damp before moisturising
This is basically what I do except I don’t use a cleanser/tone
I don’t really have a specific routine. For me, its warm water and coconut oil most of the time.
All sounds like what I pretty much do
I try to have a routine. I know what to do, but busy life some things get a quick job than the proper treatment.
Most of it is what i do but i have to be more gentle.
the tips are not new, just not necessarily followed!
I do about half of the tips above.
Great tips. I love the one that says to remember the hairline, sides of your jawline etc. Very important…. learned from experience. lol
All the tips are great. I follow most but some of them are some that I should be paying more attention to…guilty of not washing my hands before washing my face and using too hot water.
number 9 is new to me. I did not know to keep skin slightly damp and apply moisturizer immediately
I already follow most of these tips except I exfoliate only once a week.
I like to use a toner too…I do a face mask on occassion also!
They are not new to me. I don’t have a routine right now.
I am trying to get a routine, which i should have had years ago. But i definitely need to be more gentle.
Well I didn’t know most of them – so I guess I have alot to learn
great tips. I have learned lots. I know I will be starting on some of these
Lightly massage a dime-sized amount of your cleanser on damp skin. That’s all you need.
Great tips, although most are common sense. Sticking to a routine would be great I admit but I’ve been very lax about that.
A few of them are new! I wash my face every morning and every night and I use Vichy, Biotherm and baby wipes to take off my makeup at night
I already follow most of these tips except I exfoliate only once a week.
i love the feel of hot water but i know it’s harsh on skin especially in the winter it adds to the dry skin, great reminder
I have been using Live Clean Hair Care Products for ages…I do have a routine…cleanse, tone, exfoliate and moisturize.
Washing your hands first is new to me. My routine is pretty simple, wash my face and moisturize.
That’s all pretty standard to me..I find it hard not to over exfoliate, it just feels so satisfying!
these tips are great. i would add in eye cream.
Gerat tips,,I knew most of them already 🙂
I think I could do many of these..I have been very terrible over the years and have not been good to my skin..never too late though right?
i do have a routine, one for morning and then in the evening.
Great tips, I have to remember to pat my face after washing!
I never really knew you were supposed to use lukewarm water. I don’t really pay any attention to the water temp.
Good hints which I already do.
One tip that’s new to me is to wash your hands before cleansing your face. I do have a routine, I wash my face in the morning and moisturize, and wash makeup off at night. 🙂
They are good tips. I like the dime size amount that you’re suppose to use.
Great tips here and I found I am doing things wrong. I didn’t know you should apply the moisturizer to your skin when it is damp. I will do this from now on and also won’t be using hot water on my skin.
I usually just watched my face with water
These are great tips. none of them are new to me.
Fantastic tips and really need to remember the hairline, jawline and the sides of your face. And when you rinse, pay extra attention to these areas – breakouts in these areas can be the result of poor cleansing or cleanser residue.
The tips you provided are great. Many people take exfoliating to too far a level and damage their skin – I like you you said it’s not excavation. So true. The only tip that was new to was patting your skin dry. I didn’t know that. Thanks!
6. Don’t forget your hairline, jawline and the sides of your face. I need to pay more attention to this one. Great list of tips.
I learned that lukewarm water is best!
Thanks for the tips 🙂
These are all great tips and I do use them all in my routine.
Tips no. 5 – Exfoliation isn’t excavation is new to me!
Recently introduced my friends daughter to good skin routines! I use all types of different oils – coconut/argan/almond etc and see a huge difference in my own skin. A good daily moisturizer is a must, along with exfoliation at least once a week!
I have really sensitive skin so I’m quite aware of all these tips. I really have to pay attention to rinsing because if I don’t take my time and rinse well I end up with irritated skin!
Leave your skin slightly damp and apply moisturizer immediately sounds like old new tip, I should probably follow it. As for routine, try to follow as much as possible.
Leave your skin slightly damp and apply moisturizer immediately. A long lasting, deeply hydrating moisturizer is best, especially as we move into colder months. (We’re partial to Live Clean 24 Hour Hydrating Day Cream, of course…)
Never would have done that. Nice tips!
I was aware of the tips but I usually rub my face when I wipe it dry not pat
Tip # 5 Exfoliation isn’t excavation is new to me
I’m aware of all these tips. I need to exfoliate at least weekly and not once a month or so.
The Live Clean tip on using cleansing wipes. I use them sort of gently but I never knew it was that recommended. But it makes sense, I guess.
tip 9 is new to me! I didn’t know that leaving the skin slightly damp is the best way to put on moisturizer!
All these tips are great! I use them all everyday. 🙂
I pretty much to that except I dont use the facial wipes. I do exfoliate when I’m in the shower.
They are great tips – I dont use all of them (ie I use hot water not lukewarm) so it’s a good reminder
Great tips especially wash your hands. I always just wet my hands and use cleanser!
I think I do most of these, but I don’t use a clean towel every day, maybe every 2-3 days, I think I should!
To be honest, I have zero skin care routine and now that I’m entering my 30s, I need to get on the ball so these are great tips!
I knew I used too much cleanse; I only need a dime sized amount.
This tip is one i didn’t know before:
Leave your skin slightly damp and apply moisturizer immediately.
I thought you needed skin to be totally dry before applying moisturizers!
Great tips! I think I have actually heard them all before but it was helpful to have the reminder…especially since I’m a bit lazy when it comes to my skin care routine.
I did not know this….Leave your skin slightly damp and apply moisturizer immediately.
great tips
Good Tips! I’m a failure and will have to improve my routine! Starting tonight!
It was news to me to wash my hands before using cleanser. I thought the cleanser would clean my hands and face!
I didn’t know that lukewarm water is better for your skin that warm or hot!
Fantastic tips. I didn’t know that lukewarm water is the best.
As I get older, I find I need to moisturize more and more 🙂
I agree about pay extra attention to along the hairline and jaw etc. Exactly where I have problems
Think the tips are great and did know most of them just have to fallow them.
Great tips and very similar to my own routine
The tips are much the same as mine. I only use a one step cleanser and a daily moisturizer. And I always pat, pat, pat too. 🙂
I didn’t know that it should be lukewarm water. I think I have been using too warm of water. I always cleanse, tone and moisturizer morning and and night.
3. Lukewarm means lukewarm. Yes, we know hot water feels good, but it can strip your skin of essential oils and cause irritation.
I’ve always felt like hot water was the way to go because my skin felt cleaner but now I know to stop it!
I knew all of those tips and am attempting to pass them on to my daughter. Routine is brush teeth, wash face morning and night.
All you need is a dime-sized amount for your face. New to me 🙂
patting dry your skin is one i always try to follow
I have not tried them, but would love to.
No routine 🙂
Using a wash cloth as an exfoliator. Honestly, something so simple had never occurred to me.
Never thought of washing my hands before washing my face. Makes total sense though.
I appreciate the tip about remembering the jawline when cleaning. I often get little breakouts there.
All new to me. I use a makeup remover, cleanser and moisturizer.
I didn’t realize that warm water was better to use. I also rub my face instead of patting dry.
Leave your skin slightly damp and apply moisturizer immediately is a old tip.
Great tips. Honesty, I never really thought of washing my hands before I clean my face, cause well, they are already clean…I guess not!
I learned that you should pat your face with the towel, I never do this!
I don’t “wash wash” my hands before cleaning face. I figured the facial wash was doing that while I rubbed it in. lol Whoops!
I never thought about washing my hands before washing my face. Guess I’m going to start now!
Great tips! Didn’t know not to use really hot water – I just find it so soothing – guess I’ll be doing lukewarm from now on!
I love hot baths and hot showers, so I wash my face with hot water. I always figured it wasn’t good for my face or body. I really don’t ever plan on changing my routine, unless a doctor says it’s going to kill me lol 😛
Yes, they are all new to me so I would like to try them
Yes, a few are
Leave your skin slightly damp and apply moisturizer immediately is a great tip
Didn’t know to leave my face damp when applying moisturizer, I always dry thoroughly. Will have to try this out.
i learned that using a washcloth along with cleanser is enough to keep skin clean
I did not know you should leave you face damp when applying moisturizer..I always thought you should dry your face first
I never thought about the face cloth being enough of an exfoliatent……………..the things we learn
I never wash my hands before washing my face, I guess it’s time to rethink my routine.
I have never really thought of a routine and I always touch my face without washing my hands! Oops, will be more careful to follow the routine now
I execute most of the tips provided but I love the washcloth idea for gentle exfoliation! I’ll have to add that to my routine, thanks!
My routine consists of washing, applying toner, than a moisturiser.
I love the Live Clean tips! They aren’t new to me, but they are a great reminder! I love the one about exfoliating with a wash cloth — I do that in the shower/bath too instead of using a plastic puff. I try to have a routine, but I’m not always good at keeping to it!
its routine for me. I like to take good care of my skin.
The ‘new towel a day” is new to me. Well, up the wash load I guess .
i would love to try this
I’m going to take their advice and purchase wipes that are alcohol free from now on!
#2 – I never wash my hands before I wash my face. Great tip!!
I’m guilty of not rinsing at the hairline well enough, will have to remedy this bad habit.
They are all great tips and I do have a routine…what I didn’t know is that I should leave my face a bit damp and apply moisturizer.
I like the tip about leaving your face damp and then applying moisturizer.
Patting my skin dry is new to me, I’m pretty bad about being rough on my face!
I leave my face damp before applying moisturizer.
Seen all the tips listed, but my skin is still dry and sensitive! I’d love to win, thanks for the chance 🙂
I pretty much do what they suggest but I also use a toner
I have a bit of a routine but nothing as in depth as this – I should probably kick it up a bit!
Yes exfoliation is great! I like to do that once a week
great tips, and I follow those pretty much 🙂
I always thought the hotter the water the better. But I guess that’s not the case. Good to know
I never knew that using Lukewarm water is better
Great tips! Pat dry instead of rubbing I totally agree with, and also pay attention to your neck, (front, sides and back of it!).
They are great tips, I know them, but need to follow them!!! time time time!
Great tips, most I’m familiar with but a good reminder.
I like the idea of patting dry instead of rubbing – I’ll try that!
Great tips, there were a few I knew, and others that I never thought of. I admit I rub my face instead of patting it.
I should pat more often I usually smush my face in the towel hard lol
Great tips! I do apply these in my daily routine.
Leave your skin slightly damp and apply moisturizer immediately. This is one tip I always forget. I moisturize before bed when I’m already a dried up old prune.
These are great tips and I follow most of them. I did not know this one: Save the high-speed cleansing brush for occasional use.
Cheers.
The washing your hands first tip is a good reminder!
Goods tips, i use them too
I need to make sure that I rinse more
Clearly I am in need of a new routine…lather, rinse, repeat doesn’t cut it 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway
The tip to pat your face dry caught my attention because I usually just give a quick swipe to dry.
I always make sure I clean by the hairline….it’s easy to gloss over, but so very important to get.
Looks like I’ve been doing it all wrong. No wonder my skin sucks.
Great tips. I never thought to wash my hands before washing my face. I think that may be why I sometimes breakout. Argh! Need to change this.
I don’t have a routine.
6. Don’t forget your hairline, jawline and the sides of your face. And when you rinse, pay extra attention to these areas – breakouts in these areas can be the result of poor cleansing or cleanser residue.
I cleanse and moisturize
I learned that I’m being too brutal with my face.
My routine is very similar to this, but I didn’t think of washing my hands before washing my face. I’ll od that now.
I never try these product ans I want to!
