Oh Coffee!

There are certain things that must happen in order for me to function each day. First, I need to clock at least six hours of sleep the night before. To those reading this without children under the age of oh…ten, I’ll ask you to move to the next point. To the rest of you – I know you get it. Six hours is the minimum I need, and sometimes what presents itself as an eight-hour sleep when my head hits the pillow turns into about half of that after the bad dreams, stuffy noses, possible upset stomach, glasses of
water and “Mom, I just feel weird,” events have passed in the night.

Second, a shower is something I crave in order to get my day started right. The shower doesn’t even have to last long, and may or may not involve washing my hair but it helps me feel awake, refreshed and prepared to face the day.

Finally, and sometimes the fail-safe when events one and two have not happened; I need at least one hot cup of coffee in the morning. Coffee makes me smile; it fuels my body and tells my brain that it’s time to kick into gear. Only after that first sip of coffee is it possible to answer an email, send a tweet or write a blog post worth any weight (and honestly, anything coherent).
