Putting You In Your Place

being in the momentDo you often find yourself wistful about what could be?  What had been?  Have you been aware, more than once, that you’re focused on where you want to be rather than being in the moment you are?  We all do it, as it’s a natural part of human nature to place ourselves in another moment and of course having goals is certainly a good way to focus.  The problem occurs when we’re looking elsewhere not with goals but more so with jealousy and resentment.

Betty Ann Heggie’s latest blog post titled The Hidden Purpose of Adversity takes a look at how difficult moments are always teachable moments.  She explains that adversity has taught her coping skills to make it through the tough times and admits that she’s envied those who seem to coast by without letting things affect them too much.  I could certainly relate to that!  My husband is one of those happy-go-lucky people who doesn’t let things phase him and is calm when dealing with a crisis.  I, on the other hand, tend to turn stress into a catastrophe and spend far too much energy getting upset when I could be using that energy to focus.  But how the heck does one focus when your instinct is to freak out, I wondered.

Betty Ann had some tips for that.  She offers three pieces of advice on ways to be more in the moment which will in turn calm your spirit and give you the ability to focus rather than be busy looking elsewhere.  Her blog post will further elaborate but I can say without question that my favorite was “Mind My Own Onions”.  You’ll have to tell me if you agree after you read her post!

This month, we’re asking readers to take stock of your own life. Are you in the moment or always looking elsewhere?  By reading her post and commenting, you will be entered to win $100 PayPal to put towards being more in the moment – what could you do with $100 to make that happen?

  • With my little guy I find I don’t enjoy the moment. I’m so busy trying to capture the present that it surpasses me. I want to learn how to have a healthy balance. I’m always thinking about the next thing to capture so as not to miss it.

  • For me it is definitely Walk in Nature. Sometimes being cooped inside makes me a little stir-crazy and grumpy, especially while trying to entertain an active toddler. Just getting outside makes me feel better. So glad the nicer weather is here, so we can get out more often.

  • Luckily, my puppy makes me walk in nature every day. However, sometimes I rush it and don’t pay attention to the beauty around me. I need to make more of an effort to enjoy my surroundings while I walk in nature.

  • Mine favorite is mind your own onions. Although they all are important in my life. After having. A serious life changing surgery. Afterwards I was lost. I suffered depression and anxiety. To help me one thing I did was take a course on mindfulness and by doing this course it helped bring me back to myself. I now am happy and living my life to the best of my ability. <3
