SunZone Giveaway

SunZone-FamilyShotBy Tara Richter…

Four words stopped me dead in my tracks and my world seemed to stand still as I heard my dad say, “I have skin cancer”. I couldn’t believe my ears, “Now this” I thought after his ordeal with prostate cancer. As it turns out, my dad has the most frequent occurring type of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma, which affects between 50 to 60,000 people each year in Canada. This non-metastasizing, or non-spreading, skin cancer is the result of cumulative years of UV exposure. While his cancer can be treated, due to early detection, it is likely something he will continue to battle for years due to the cumulative sun damage on his skin.

While avoiding ultraviolet light is the best way to prevent skin cancer, most of us cannot avoid our time outdoors or in the sun. Fortunately, sunscreen is the next best way to protect your skin against the sun’s harmful rays. According to the Canadian Cancer Society the effectiveness of sun screen in prevention of skin cancer is dependent on three key factors.
1. The spectrum of UV Radiation absorbed
2. The amount of sunscreen applied and
3. The frequency of application.

The makers of Empack, an industry leading aerosol manufacturer specializing in products for personal care, household goods, automotive, computer care and more, are excited to announce a new Canadian made sunscreen to be launched across the country this March.

SunZone is a line of sun care products, available in both lotion and aerosol, that are uniquely formulated with natural plant based ingredients that have significantly less chemicals than leading brand sunscreens. All the sunscreens are oil free, PABA free, and paraben free. Many are made with ingredients including Green Tea extract, moisturizing Aloe and Vitamin E and are water resistant. Of course, all the sunscreens offer broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) protection, so you can rest easy that you have maximum coverage for your skin. SPF coverage ranges between 15 to 60 and are available in Family, Kids, Babies, Sport and Work varieties.

I am impressed with the non-greasy and lightweight feel of all the formulations. Best of all, they do not “smell” like typical sunscreens, but rather like a lightly fragranced lotion. I like being able to customize the type of sunscreen required from SunZone, either lotion or mist, and the varying SPF required. The sprays offer an ultra-light sheer coverage, a non-greasy feel, and the ability to get to those hard to reach areas. The lotions have been dermatologist tested, are hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, and leave skin feeling soft and moisturized.

Whether you are escaping to a hot vacation spot, or just generally looking to protect yourself and your family from the sun’s harmful rays, SunZone sunscreen has a product that is just right for you. While many of us are aware of the rules of sunscreen, it never hurts to have the reminder. Visit Sunzone.ca to brush up on your sun safety with their helpful tips!

SunZone sunscreens will be available through Amazon in early 2014 and also through Mark’s Work Warehouse.
