By Tara Richter…
When the chaos of Christmas is over, the days and weeks that follow always ignite the same thought for me – Time to Get Organized. During this time, I take stock of what I have, what needs to go, and ensure everything is back in its place, and appropriately labeled (a behavior comically known as being label retentive). Jokes aside, I have to say there is something so satisfying (and calming) about opening up a cupboard, a filing cabinet, or looking to the crafts shelf in the basement and seeing crisp, clear and uniform labels on the containers, letting me know exactly what is inside.
This year I will be using my new Brother P-Touch Label Maker to organize my post-Christmas chaos. The P-Touch Labeler has one-touch keys along with pre-designed labels and an assortment of fonts, symbols, frames and patterns to make your labels unique. It consists of a graphical display which allows you to preview text and layout before printing to ensure it’s exactly what it will look like. The P-Touch Label Maker even allows you to store up to 30 of your favorite labels to ensure reprinting is a breeze!
I already knew that the Brother P-Touch Label Maker would be fantastic because I’ve been using one in my office at work for years. I love how really intuitive and easy it is to use. While you could definitely get away with using it straight away and figuring it out as you go, I’d recommend a quick 5-10 minute read through of the manual to get a full appreciation and understanding of all the features and settings that it has to offer. With the help of batteries, the P-Touch Label Maker is portable too making it convenient to go room to room and print labels anywhere without requiring an electrical outlet. If you do want to plug it in, it does have a port for an AC adapter, but is sold separately.
Some of the other key features include:
• One-touch keys – quickly access fonts, symbols, frames and patterns
• Graphical Display – see how your label will look!
• 8 professional fonts for label variety
• Uses laminated, “TZe” tapes up to 12mm wide – great for indoor or outdoor use
• Easy-access memory, store up to 30 “Favorite” labels
• Includes more than 600 symbols and 95 frames
• 12 Deco Mode patterns, plus 6 name badge designs
• Print 1 or 2 lines of text
• Split-back labels for easy peel and stick
• Operates on 6 x “AAA” batteries or AC adapter (both sold separately)
I am currently in the “pre-label” phase of getting things organized in anticipation of Christmas Day. I am preparing to make great use of this handy device for by labeling containers full of crayons, markers, lego & other new toys, Christmas lights, wrapping paper, ribbons and decorations. Using the P-Touch Label Maker will also enable my 9-year old to get more organized too, and eliminate the excuse of “But Mom, I don’t know where it goes”.
In my opinion, being organized isn’t just about having a bunch of containers to put stuff in, but a function of how quickly you can put things away where they belong. The Brother P-Touch Label Maker helps to achieve this organization formula by enabling you to very quickly, and visually assign a home to ‘like’ objects. Some of my favorite ways to use a label maker are for spice jars, files in the filing cabinet, crafts supplies, tools, nails/screws and sewing items (to name a few). The possibilities on how, or what to label, are really quite endless.
Give the gift of organization this year, and grab one for yourself too. The Brother P-Touch Label Maker is valued at $39.99 and is available online at Brother.ca or at many office/electronic stories including Future Shop, Staples and Best Buy.
