My Fabulous Life

Throw Back Thursday – P&G Archives

I figured Throw Back Thursday (#tbt) was the perfect day to share these photos taken at the P&G Archives in Cincinnati last week!  This was my favorite part of our visit (though there were many close seconds!)  I loved every minute going through these retro products and reminicing about my old childhood and thinking about my mother (married in 1958 and a 60’s housewife raising 3 kids before the surprise that was ME in the late 70’s!) and all the products she would have used.

I took a trip down memory lane looking at the Emmy that Proctor & Gamble won for Daytime Television!  Yes, remember that?  P&G was a producer of Another World (this so reminds me of my childhood watching with my mom!) Guiding Light  and As The World Turns among others!

Take a trip down memory lane here!

I’d love to read your comments below!  How many products do you remember seeing in these particular boxes or packages?  What about the soap operas (now you can see how they got their name, with P&G producing the first soap operas in the 1930’s since they were  primarily known for soaps/detergents at that time!)

P&G Archives cleaning supplies

P&G got their start in soap – look how far they’ve come.

P&G Archives Crest

1950’s Crest packaging!

P&G Archives Vicks

Look how old some of these bottles are!  Vicks was originally marketed as a product for pneumonia and croup!

P&G Archives Pampers

I loved looking at these Pampers packages and thinking about my own mom buying them for me!

P&G Archives Secret

I totally remember the floral branding, do you?

P&G Archives Head & Shoulders

So 80’s, don’t you think?

P&G Archives Olay

These bottles remind me of my mom and grandmother.  Great memories!

P&G Archives cleaning products

More 80’s retro goodness!

P&G Archives Bounce

Memories of my mom’s laundry room in the 80’s!

P&G Archives Always

  • Wow! I had forgotten how some of the products have changed over the years. I remember seeing them now at my grandmas house. At teh time the packaging and colours were super cool and modern. Love the old Pampers pack, so cute. Thanks for sharing.

  • What an experience you guys had! Amazing how much things have changed since our childhoods. All the old packages bring back memories for sure! My mom used all of those products and now today so do I! #PGMom

  • WOW! That is SOOOOO neat!!!
I remember seeing so many of those on TV, or when my mom used to buy them.
Amazing how things change over time (and you don’t even really notice) until you see the products side-by-side!
Makes me wonder what these will look like in another 20 years!

  • My mom bought that Bounce. 🙂 LOVE seeing the evolution in product packaging. It brought back memories for me also. And since i’m in a sharing mode, my mother also loved Another World. However, we were more an ABC soaps family than CBS. 🙂

  • I remember a lot of these products! A few year ago on Christmas I started to clean out my moms bathroom cupboards…I know, sounds like a fun Christmas activity, right?! She had SO many old bottles of products. Seriously, some were older than I was! I’m pretty sure some of the bottles you featured here were in her cupboard. She never throws anything away unless it’s empty so now it’s a Christmas tradition for me to clean out her cupboards and fridge because even though she says the expiration date on products is “just a suggestion”, we’re tired of tummy aches from expired food followed my expired tummy ache medicine. 😉

  • I was at my Godmother’s house on the weekend – she has a picture of me and her son in the tub, and that EXACT Head & Shoulders bottle is in the background!

I love looking at products and how the packaging has changed over the years – thanks for sharing!

  • Oh my! My jar of vicks must be expired by now. They’ve updated the packaging twice since I bought mine. Yeesh!

  • I loved the pictures, thank you so much for how things have changed. We have a picture of my sister beside a box of the red box of pampers. I think it is awesome to see but SOOOOOO SAD that I remember the packaging! It makes me feel OLD! The Crest looks very familiar too. I don’t think Bounce has changed it’s box that much to notice a big difference. We used the original Always brand too… WOW … Okay Tenille I AM FEELING VERY OLD… Show me something more modern:P

  • I love these pictures…the vicks jars, the really old ones…so great that they have kept originals of their products.

  • WOW! HOw cool!

I just love looking at old packaging, for some odd reason.. It’s so neat to see how lines have changed or not changed over the years

  • Awesome throw back, Tenille. Now to save packages to compare to the next 20 yrs. I’m cracking open Rising Tide this weekend 🙂

  • That is so cooL!!! So much fun looking at old products, I do recognize quite a bit of them too! Neat!!

  • Thanks for the photos,I remember a few ,my Mom sure enjoyed looking at these. She was surprised how these products have changed over the years

  • Very neat to see these old packages. I remember a quite a few of them at my house as a child. We always used Tide, and my first deodorant was Secret and I still use it today. Bounce , Crest, Downy and Vick’s, Ivory were definitely in our house. So many of these are in my household today. So that is why they are called Soap Operas, very interesting.

  • Wow, I remember seeing several of the old packaging! We have always used a lot of P&G products and some I still buy for sentimental reasons such as Ivory Bar soap because the scent reminds me of my mom.

  • I’m so jealous of your visit! I love old, vintage packing and really miss the old Oil of Olay bottles. I grew up with those!

  • Interesting to see how good these products were 100 years ago. They definitely passed the test of time. Wonder how many items will be found in a museum some day.

  • You must of had an awesome time!! I can’t believe the memories that come back by just looking at the pictures!!

  • ok that is totally cool to see the older packaging and a lot of it brings me back. oh memories

  • How awesome is this?!? I have customer who has a similar set up in their office of food products from days past!

  • I’m showing my age here. I remember most of the old packaging. I still have some of those old bottles.

  • Pretty neat stuff right there! Much of this packaging I have never even seen before. ha! Very cool

  • These definitely brought me back to my childhood, especially the Crest, as we used that brand while I was growing up.

  • Great reminder post of the changes in the products and packaging over the year. The first moisturizer I purchased was the Oil of Olay in the bottle.

  • I have a bad memory apparently for packaging. The only ones that strike a cords are the jars of Vicks and the Secret on the left.

  • I love this post! The pics really make me feel old. Is it me or was the packaging much cooler back then?!

  • I remember seeing all those its so cool , the secret one i remember the most 🙂 so cool seeing the older styles !

  • What a fun experience 🙂 I really love looking at the old packaging – it surprises me that some is still basically identical to it’s original form 🙂

  • I never knew they had an archive for products but it is funny how I remember these looks of some of the products from earlier days and how they have change since then.

  • oh my!!! amazing how far they’ve come. It really reminds me of my childhood. Especially the toothpaste!

  • Wow! That is so amazing how much they have updated their products and changed everything! It is so interesting to see it all in this awesome visual experience!

  • I remember seeing some of these packages under the sink at my Mom’s house. Love seeing them again.

  • Wow what a great trip down P & G memory lane. I remember those Vicks bottles and not in a good way. LOL

  • so many of the products were in our home when I was growing up! some of the old packaging brought back flash memories! especially the Vicks Vapor rub.
