Staples Big Chair Event: On Now Until June 4th!

Right now, at Staples store locations and online, customers are invited to check out the Staples Big Chair Event! Office chairs are on sale at Staples AND you can get bonus Air Miles on your purchase!

I was given the opportunity to visit my local Staples store and check out all the chairs available for this event and pick a chair to take home with me – sort of like picking a puppy only there’s less mess in the end.

At my location, the Big Chair Event was highlighted immediately upon entering the store.  BAM – office chairs are there to greet customers!

It was serendipitous that, moments after walking into the store and surveying the selection of chairs available, my massage therapist walked into the store!  What a stroke of luck!

I explained my mission and together we checked out a few chairs and discussed important features from his perspective, noting the ergonomic features of each.

Soon Neil, the Sales Manager at that location and a sales associate assisted me in choosing the perfect chair for my home office.  “So, you’re a blogger huh?  You must spend a lot of time on your computer then,” he said.  Indeed I do.

Here’s the thing, while I have a home office I don’t spend nearly as much time in there as I should.  It’s much easier for me to sit on the couch in our living room – laptop on my lap – in a very non-ergonomic position than it is to settle into my home office.  I’d be way more effective if I worked from my office but there are so many things about it that are lacking, and my office chair is definitely one of them.  Thanks to Staples, I’m taking the first step to making my home office my own, and getting my butt into that chair and IN my office.

Back to Neil and my chair-search.  There’s a large selection of chairs to choose from at all Staples locations, so it comes down to figuring out what features are important and useful to the user.

I love love loved this Office Star Avenue Six Jasmine Accent Chair. I wanted to take it home and give her a name and set her in a pretty spot in my house – then realized it was completely non-functional for me. Oh, and I have three kids who walk around with jam-hands.  At $79.98 with 25 bonus AIR MILES, it’s a great deal.

Eventually, I decided on this Serta High Back Manager’s Chair (like a boss!)  Here’s why.

When looking at this chair and comparing it to the others, Sales Manager Neil explained a few key points to me that really stood out.  First, the ridiculous amount of adjustable areas on the chair ensures that it’s completely comfortable for you.

This chair has seat height adjustment, back angle adjustment (those two are basic for many chairs), lumbar support adjustment (ahhh!) and arm rest height adjustment (huge for someone who types a lot!)

Now here’s one feature that I loved;  I’ve tweeted about it before – that feeling that you’re going to die when you lean too far back on an office chair and for a split-second think that you’re going to flip upside down.  You’ve been there, admit it!  Tension adjustment on this chair gives you the ability to have the chair lean all the way back into the death-recline, or just slightly back to a relaxing-rock.  I like relaxing-rock more.

The chair is made with memory foam on the seat and back cushions that conforms to your body!  That’s right, it’s going to form-fit my butt perfectly!  I also learned that the chair is upholstered in black bonded leather on all seating surfaces.  Yet, it’s priced at $199.96 on sale (regular $299.96).  How can that be – for a leather chair?  I learned that leather on the seating surfaces is what counts.  The sides and back of the chair are not leather – to upholster the entire chair with leather would largely increase the price.  That makes sense to me – you want durable leather on the chair where it’s going to come into contact and wear daily.

I’m so pleased with my new chair and the customer service (and education!)
