While searching for easy Halloween crafts on the web, Pinterest brought me to an awesome post about slime…monster slime to be exact…that turns out to be an easy, though messy, craft that the whole family can participate in. The best part? It cleans up well, can be stored for later use, and the kids love anything disgusting.
Monster Slime
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon Borax powder
1 1/2 c. water
1/2 cup white glue (or clear, if you can find it)
food coloring
You’ll need two bowls. Fill one with 1 cup of warm water and add 1 tsp of Borax powder (by the way, Borax powder comes in a large box, so you’ll have tons left over for future Monster Slime projects!) Mix until the Borax is dissolved and set aside.
Next, pour 1/2 cup white glue into a separate bowl and add 1/2 cup water.
Add food coloring. Start with about 4 drops and adjust based on the determination of exactly how green or gross monster slime or snot should be!
Next, add glitter if you want to add a bit of magic to the slime….or snot. Can snot have glitter? Why not!
Add the Borax mixture to the glue mixture and mix with your hands (this is the best part!)
Mom or dad can pour out the excess water before adding to containers for another play time!
After the Monster Slime (snot!) project was complete, my son decided we should try and make brain matter – because he’s eight and eight year old boys are gross like that.
We added red food coloring this time, which turned it pink because of the white glue, so we added some purple food coloring to darken it a bit.
FYI, having a conversation with your eight year old about the exact color of brain matter is disturbing. And gross. And pleased him to no end!
Once the kids mold it a bit it becomes a little more solid yet far more gooey than playdoh. Have fun!
This looks like so much fun for the kiddos. Thanks for sharing.
We will definitely be trying this! thanks 🙂
I did this with my kids this afternoon (ages 12 and 6!) and they loved it! Thank you for sharing 🙂
