It can be a tricky business finding a new bra; enter any shop and you will be faced with rows upon rows of them. In fact for many women it can be a bit of a nightmare! Where is it you actually start? How do you find the perfect bras for you out of the masses which are in the shop? In many department stores or online shopping sites you are faced with any number of different brands so how on earth do you pick between them, let alone one bra in their collections?
The answer to these questions is simple; the way to find your perfect bra is to take it one step at a time. The first thing you need to do when bra shopping is get your correct size – it is recommended that every time you buy a new bra you get measured as sizes can fluctuate quite a bit. Once you have your size then you need to have a look at the style you are after.
Finding your perfect style can be the tricky bit but for everyday comfort there are really only a few types of bras that you want to be looking at. These are the full cup bra, half cup bra, balconette bra and t-shirt bras. Of course there are a great number of different types of bras out there but these tend to be the ones that women wear as their ‘every day bras’.
Once you have your size and style of bra, many women feel like the hard work is over but actually now you have to choose the brand you want to buy. All brands will have a slightly different feel to them so you want to look for one that fits you comfortably and is made of materials which will sit comfortably against your skin. Many people feel that the materials used can make or break a bra so you want to look for one with high quality materials as well as design. At online stores you can usually find wide collections of underwear and swimwear to choose from, from the comfort of your home. You can find anything from more luxurious underwear to cheap tankinis.
Whatever your bra shopping strategy, hopefully you’ve got favorite brand already and a go-to style that works. If not, hopefully these tips will make the next shopping trip less traumatic and more successful!
I just recently purchased a whole new bra wardrobe! I (finally) got a bra fitting at La Senza when I popped in one day (side note: they actually do the fitting above your clothes, so if anyone was shying away at getting a proper fitting because they thought they had to take their clothes off, worry no more! They ask what type of bra you are currently wearing to help with their assessment). I have been wearing a 36B since high school… turns out I am a 34D! I was pretty shocked (and my husband quite intrigued when I told him later that day). My biggest tip is to TRY, TRY, TRY! I recently went into a bra shop and tried on about 30 bras (and purchased 2) – one of the ones I bought is a 34D, and the other is a 36C – every bra is different, so buy what feels right! 🙂 Thanks for bringing this to your readers’ attention – too many women are wearing bras that don’t fit and feeling uncomfortable when they don’t need to!
