My 7 year old has been learning about nutrition at school this year and so, he’s often asking me “what is this food good for?” In other words, what vitamins or nutrients does an apple give me? Why do I have to eat green beans, how do they help my body?
I’ll admit that there are times when I’m not entirely sure why a particular food is good for him, but I know it is, so I’ll answer that it helps his body grow and helps him feel strong. He goes with that answer, for now.
It’s great kitchen conversation though, and now I find myself questioning foods when we’re talking. Is the cereal I’m eating the best choice for me? What about that bagel? Is there a way I can eat a great tasting breakfast and knock a few healthy daily requirements off my list?
I learned that Fibre 1 Honey Clusters, for example, gives me 52% of my daily fibre requirement in just one serving! Whoa. If I can find healthy foods like this that can take care of a big chunk of my daily requirements in one serving, I’d be so much better off at the end of each day.
Maybe I’d even have the energy to research what exactly a green bean is “good for” and why his roast beef must be finished at dinner. 😉
If you’d like to check out Fibre 1 click here for a $1.00 off coupon!
To encourage healthy eating and healthy starts, I have a Fibre One Healthy Start Kit to give away to one of my Canadian readers! This kit is valued at $50 and includes: Fiber 1 Honey Clusters Cereal, a royal blue Yoga Mat, a 3.5ft blue resistance band with a grip, and a GoFit Speed Jump Rope.
