Don’t Buy Another Gift Card Until You Read This!

This past weekend, we had a it of a birthday present emergency. On the way to one birthday party, we also picked up a gift card for a party next week. Walking into the birthday party, we discovered within 5 minutes that the gift we had brought for the adorable 1 year old was, in fact, already sitting in the living room! My husband remembered the gift card we had purchased earlier, and he made a stealth exit out the door with the gift, returning with the gift card that we simply slipped into the birthday card. Crisis averted!

Gift cards have saved the day many times for us – they are a definite go-to when unsure of what to get someone and I’m finding that kids are thrilled to receive them as well! I thought it was all about opening that gift but my kids are thrilled to receive gift cards because they know it means a shopping trip and they also get a say in what the buy for themselves (you know how kids are about control!!) I, myself, have a love affair with gift cards as well!

I’m loving how accessible gift cards are – while you can stop by your favorite store to pick one up you can also select from a variety of businesses at displays in many local stores across Canada. The only downside to gift-cards? The person you give it to knows exactly how much you spent on their gift. Frugal me loves finding a great deal on a present, giving someone something that is normally $50 but I picked up at an end-of-season sale last year for $25? That’s me!
