We are already more than half way through the Lego Duplo 30 Days of Play Challenge at Today’s Parent and if you’ve seen some of the images I’ve been sharing on Facebook and Twitter you know that we’ve been busy building a multitude of things while learning some great preschool skills along the way.
When I joined the challenge I hoped that it would give me some focused one on one time with Nevaeh each day and although it has done that, it also surprised me in a way I didn’t expect. My son Elijah, at 7, is a huge Lego fan and has his own collection of blocks in our toy room. I thought he would scoff at his sister’s daily challenge and have no interest in it. In fact, the opposite has happened. He, too, asks me every day what the daily challenge is and he’s always trying to help out his sister (much to her annoyance some days) with the creations. It’s been a really great way for the two of them to play together, especially when the challenges like Day 11’s Alphabet Train gives him an opportunity to teach his sister.
It’s been wonderful seeing them play together so well conquering the daily challenges. Hooray for Today’s Parent and Lego Duplo giving this mom a few minutes each day to watch her two oldest actually get along and work together. 🙂
