Moon Dough is back with a new and improved formula for their dough. In the past, parents have complained (my husband included) about how crumbly the dough can be. Though great for molding and making fun designs, the Moon Dough tended to crumble more than other brands of dough making clean up take a bit longer than we’d like. Still, the kids enjoyed it so we kept the set around for play time – it just turns out we didn’t bring it out very often.
I realized this when I was given the opportunity to check out the new and improved Moon Dough. “Oh, that’s right we have Moon Dough,” I realized…but it was tucked away in the back corner of our pantry. Whoops.
Eager to give Moon Dough another try, and perhaps bring out the old set that had been set aside in favor of other brands, the kids tested out the new Moon Dough Push N’ Pop Ocean Pals set.
The kids liked the ocean scene included in the package and had fun using the molds included to create various underwater creatures. I would have liked the ocean scene to be bigger – it was made out of cardboard, but if it was made from plastic it could have been folded in the package and been much larger, which would be more fun.
The fun thing about Moon Dough is the unique texture makes it really easy to create great molds that hold their shape. The kids can play with their new creations without worrying about them crumbling in their hands. Moon Dough also doesn’t dry out, which is really cool too especially when kids leave the bags open or simply wander off in the middle of play.
The new Moon Dough formula is definitely less crumbly than the original. It’s still crumbly though, more so than their competitors – but Moon Dough has an entirely different fun texture than competitors and it doesn’t dry out. So, in this case you take the good with the bad.

I’ve never tried it before but it looks great! What interests me is that it’s similar to playdoh which I’ve always enjoyed. I think my grandsons would love this!

I’m curious if it’s at all like Sculpy or Play-doh. We’ve never played with it.

I’ve seen it but never tried it, preferring to go with the known brand, Play-Doh. I would be interested in trying it out, especially now that I know it doesn’t dry out – unfortunately, my kids are not known for their promptness at putting things away 🙂
