Positive energy flows both ways, doesn’t it? It always makes me smile when I do something kind and get that heart-swell feeling when I know I’ve made a difference in someone’s day, no matter how small the act of kindness. Apologies for sounding like a Care Bear for a moment but it’s true. When we do things to help others it not only helps them, it also does a lot for our own mojo and makes both parties feel pretty great.
Energizer is taking this idea of positive energy and they’ve created a campaign to encourage Canadians to do random acts of kindness. In return, Energizer will pledge $1 to Evergreen for every pledge Canadians pledge on the Now That’s Positive Energy website (up to 3 pledges per person). Evergreen is a not-for-profit organization committed to making Canadian cities more green and livable, creating a more sustainable future for all of us.
Please take a moment and pledge your 3 acts of kindness on the site today!
Here are 5 pledges that I’m doing, you can use them to think about your own:
1. I travel so much that I’ve become the mama-helper on airplanes. I love helping moms navigate the joys of flight with their little ones. On one trip, a mom was struggling to get her stroller open after de-boarding at the gate, which is difficult with 1 hand. I offered to hold her baby while she got the stroller open. Such a small thing, but she was so grateful adn it made me feel awesome!
2. While organizing clothes for the consignment sale I’m participating in, I also put aside a huge bag (that’s growing) of clothes to donate as well.
3. If I see a mom with her kids in the car (ha, typically a van!) behind me in line at Timmie’s this week, I’m going to buy her coffee when I get to the window first. I love doing this for moms.
4. Do you realize how something as simple as holding a door open for a mom with a stroller can make her day? Strollers are hard to navigate through store doors, so this is an easy act of kindness that you can do every day and it’s going to be one of mine as well!
5. Here’s an easy one too – I’m going to make a concerted effort to return my cart and the others near me in the grocery store or department store parking lot this week. Not only does it help out the employee tasked to collect them, it also makes parking easier for the rest of us when there are not any carts blocking the space.
Wow, that was easy! The point of this program, of course, is to remind us to be kind and hopefully some of the acts Canadians pledge will become second-nature. We could all use a little more kindness out there.
Disclosure – I am participating in the Energizer Canada & Evergreen “Do Something Little, Help Something Big” program by Mom Central Canada on behalf of Energizer Canada & Evergreen. I received compensation as a thank you for my participation. The opinions on this blog are my own.
