Our family got a “jump-in-with-both-feet” introduction to reading labels meticulously when our daughter, Nevaeh, was diagnosed with food allergies at age 1. Thankfully, she has outgrown all but one of them (nut allergy) by age 3 so we have been able to relax a bit, but we still read the label each and every time we purchase food in our house because production facilities, processes and ingredients can change.
Families with food allergies present are not the only people who have to read labels cautiously. Gluten intolerance has made news in recent years, and because of information being shared, more and more people are discovering they have a gluten intolerance. My mom, in her 70’s now, has pondered that possibility. Can you imagine being a senior and discovering something that could have been avoided for decades? Wow.
Thankfully, with gluten intolerance being in the media, more and more companies are providing their customers with gluten free options so they don’t have to make special trips to natural-food stores for their groceries (which, by the way, are vastly more expensive than regular groceries, we learned from experience).
Chex is now in Canada (hooray!) and they now have two new gluten free options that everyone in the family can enjoy. We checked out Gluten Free Rice Chex and Honey Nut Chex (Nevaeh, of course, wasn’t able to sample the Nut Chex)
My son Elijah and I both like the Honey Nut Chex, while Nevaeh and her dad like the Rice Chex – a pretty even split for favorites in this household. I seem to always grab a handful out of the box when preparing the kid’s cereal in the morning – it’s great for a quick snack dry as well.
Look for Chex in your grocer’s cereal aisle now, and check out these gluten-free recipies using Chex!

Glad to here that they are expanding as I’m sure those who are allergic to gluten are as well.
