Ah the baby activity gym! What a great place for babies to lay and play, and what a great relief for parents when baby is occupied staring at the toys hanging above her. Our original activity gym had been through 2 kids (and the mat washed several times…love that they’re washable!) and had seen better days, so when I was offered the opportunity to review a new gym for Everleigh, I jumped at it. The Tiny Love Jungle Park activity gym has so much more than our original one (also by Tiny Love) which is awesome – I didn’t think Tiny Love could make their activity mats better than they already were!
The box suggests that the product can be used from 0+ months which I suppose is true – this mat could be a place to lay a newborn down when you need a clean, comfortable spot (on hardwood floors, etc.) but we didn’t start using this mat ourselves until Everleigh was about 5 weeks old. Before then, I’m not sure she’d have noticed or been interested in the toys. Now, at 6.5 weeks, she is more aware of toys hanging in her line of vision and enjoys the reflection and light in the mirror that’s attached as well.
Features of this mat that stand out include the double sided detachable toy seen here that has a colorful scene on one side and a black/white/red contrast scene on the other side, colors that infants love. Complete with music and lights, this toy is perfect for stimulation on the mat but can also be taken outside, to play group, and more.
I liked that the toy rings on this mat slide along the arches – this way parents can position them at the perfect spot for baby to reach (with our old mat, the toys hung from specific spots on the arches so you’d have to make sure to position baby to reach them.)
Also a bonus with this activity gym is the U-shaped tummy time pillow which makes it more comfortable for baby to lay on her tummy on the mat.
When not in use, the mat can be quickly taken apart and put back in the box for storage though most parents find activity mats so useful that they become a part of the decor until baby is sitting on her own (at which point my kids always would rather pull the whole thing down than lay under it!)
