Saskatchewan, that is. I read a few web forums – some related to blogging, some related to pregnancy and parenthood. It’s always interesting to compare our lifestyle with people in other provinces or in the US and I’m always learning something new.
Even when discussing things like auto insurance. I was explaining to a friend in Oklahoma that here in SK we don’t go about getting insurance quotes and comparing them before making a decision. Our insurance is through the government – so yes there’s only one option but it makes life easier (suppose that’s because I don’t know any different, right?)
Health insurance? Nope, our gov’t takes care of that too – if you want additional coverage you can look into various plans, and many employers offer great benefits through thier employee health programs but for the average citizen you can go to the doctor, ER, or have a hospital stay without any expense to yourself (partially due to a Canada-wide program but I understand Albertans pay more for insurance than we do here…)
I love the reach and knowledge given to us by the worldwide web – more so I love the ability to learn more about our neighbors and of course share more about ourselves in the process. Life on the Canadian prairies is far from perfect and when it’s 40 below I’m the first one in my house to grumble about that. But looking at the landscape in this photo, and seeing it first-hand on a beautiful summer’s day, I can’t help but feel very fortunate to live where I do.
Beautiful view.
Well said. I love the prairies too.
curious…was your friend in oklahoma and supporter or opponent of universal health care? i just can’t imagine not having it, so its hard for me to understand not supporting it….
