One ordinary couple. One crazy night. Just released on DVD August 10th, Date Night brings together two of the biggest actors in comedy – Steve Carell and Tina Fey – to star in this hilarous comedy that every married couple can relate to.
The couple maintains a weekly, albeit boring, date night routine to get away from the chaos of being married with children (the opening scene demonstrating the day-to-day life had me laughing out loud). During a book club meeting with friends, Phil (Carell) and Claire (Fey) discover that friends of theirs are divorcing because the flame has died in their marriage.
Determined to not let their marriage suffer the same fate, Phil and Claire go to “the city” (Manhattan) for thier next weekly date night. They go to a new restaurant Claire has read about but are denied a table by the snooty host because “you need to book a month in advance”. While waiting at the bar, the couple hear a reservation called for a name that no one answers to.
Phil decides to be reckless and pretend they are the Triplehorn party, and that sets the stage for the rest of the evening’s wild adventure. A case of mistaken identity leaves the couple fighting for their life and showing eachother that perhaps there is some spark (dare I say feist!) left in each of them.
With an impressive supporting cast including Mark Wahlberg (in the way I like him best, shirtless the entire time), Taraji P. Henson, Leighton Meester (looking very un-Gossip-Girl like) and rapper Common, the stage is set for a great comedy. Both my husband and I laughed out loud during the movie (me more so because I love both Carell and Fey so much!) Date Night IS the perfect date night movie for a hubby and wife to watch together.
