While some parents may feel that having kids put a crimp on their adventure, the opposite has happened with us. Now, those friends who know me well will get a chuckle out of that because we are by far not an “outdoorsy” family. However, we have definitely been on more adventures since having our kids and having good quality, versatile bags to carry all our “stuff” is essential. Think about it – a cranky mommy with a sore back from carrying awkward bags or better yet, a mom who has not only lost the sippy cup but her marbles too…it’s just not a good situation. I’m a planner, I micro-manage everything, and having items packed neatly and ready to go before an outing. Overland Equipment is the enabler to my madness.
I had the chance to check out the Montecito bag from Overland Equipment. I liked this bag specifically because of what it wasn’t. I didn’t want another backpack to carry, but rather a bag that I could pack and carry over my shoulder or by the handle. The Storm Blue/Sprout color combo (the inner lining is sprout) is great for both my husband and I (a pet peeve of mine is how all active-style bags tend to be black).
This bag was put to great use over the past month. First, we used it when we were in the process of moving to a new city an hour away and had to stay in a hotel for 4 nights. The bag was perfect for all the necessities needed like swimming diapers for my toddler, a hair dryer, shampoo, etc. The divided area inside is great for keeping things separate – packing for a yoga class would be easy with a spot for shoes inside as well. We used the bag again when we had an out of town trip last week. Of course we need our ginormous suitcase, but this bag is great for all the little extras that in the past ended up being carried around in a grocery bag or three (yeah…I know, shush.)
