I know Americans are not so happy about the state of the Canada/US dollar right now but as a Canadian I’m thrilled! Yes, I know, I know, the economics of this interesting situation are threatening to some but as a household on one income the fact that as Canadians we can shop for items in the US and not pay up to 20% more is pretty cool.
I love the Target website and I have a friend who lives in Ontario and regularly shops over the border in Buffalo, NY so she finds me great items. I can shop online and then tell her what I’m looking for before she goes (yes she is an amazing personal shopper!)
Of course, when the exchange rate wasn’t good for us Canadians (like in 2007 when we went to Las Vegas for my birthday) it really sucked to shop on vacay because on top of paying taxes, we also paid more for the items after the exchange. We got used to it though. So used to it that now, with the exchange rate being at or better than par, Canadians are very eager to check out stores in the US either online or in person. I know I am!
If US based companies have not yet opened their virtual doors to Canadian purchases, now might be a good time to do so. Just sayin’.
