My “few days away” to be with family took a little longer than we anticipated. My dad had heart bypass surgery last week and had eight…yes eight…bypasses. The surgery day was extremely stressful but it went by fast, oddly enough. Since then, he has been and continues to recover in the hospital. With a husband and two rambunctious kids in tow it was hard to ask friends to continually be our hotel so we came home last night. It was hard to leave but I know my dad is in good hands and there’s only so much I can do as his daughter (staring at him while he sleeps doesn’t help much).
A lot has been said about Canadian health care in recent weeks, with the US structure changing. I have to say here that I am so thankful to be Canadian for reasons like this. From discovery of major blockages to surgery, the wait time was about 3 weeks total. No bill when we leave the hospital, which will help tremendously to reduce stress while recovering. Our system isn’t perfect and I realize that, but I am thankful for it right now.
I will hopefully get caught up picking winners here and on the Label Daddy Blog tonight or tomorrow. I also have some great features to post in the coming days. All this while continuing to renovate and make our house a home in anticipation of the big ‘event’ April 12th.
Thank you for your emails and tweets, they were great to read while sitting (and staring at my dad sleeping) in the hospital. I now refer to him as Octo-Dad. 😉
