When the creator of Strawberry Shortcake, back in the 80s, were thinking of a name for her adorable doll and all her friends, I wonder what made her decide on Strawberry Shortcake? Whatever the reason, the dolls of the 80s bring back many memories that are strongly linked to their delicious scents. Check out this link I found with some pictures of the original dolls and their names. I had Apricot with Hopsalot (I can still remember the smell even though I don’t have this one anymore) and I also had the evil villian Sour Grapes with Dregs the Snake (which smelled like delicious grapes!)
I think it’s so cool that my own daughter gets to enjoy Strawberry Shortcake dolls now. They look a little different than they did when I was little, but it’s still the cute red headed girl. My daughter has been carrying around her little strawberry shaped purse with her little Strawberry Shortcake doll inside for the past week since we were sent this cutie to check out.
The little comb she comes with is perfect too, and the size and portability make this doll a companion for the several road trips we’ve been on this past week house hunting.
I didn’t show Nevaeh the Sweet Surprise Strawberry Shortcake we received right away. I let her enjoy her smaller version first. It was worth it to see her eyes light up when she saw the bigger version of her doll! It gets better – when I showed her how she could magically apply make-up to the doll, she clapped with glee (at 2, scary isn’t it?!)
All parents need to do is fill the make-up applicator with water, pop it in the freezer to cool and then use the cold water to magically make the make-up appear. You can also apply hair extensions and stickers to the doll – Strawberry Shortcake is certainly more glam than she was in 1983 when I got my first one! One thing that remains consistent, that delicious strawberry smell!
