I’m a sucker for a good love story, but not a big fan of Valentines Day. I think the day is great, and having an excuse to eat chocolate works for me, but setting aside just one day to celebrate those that you love doesn’t seem quite right. Just as the plot of The Time Traveller’s Wife or The Notebook make me sigh and smile, so do the stories inside this book.

One of the most touching stories, “The Last Valentine” by Caroline S. McKinney recounts a daughter’s last hours with her dying father. In those last hours, she purchased one last Valentines Day card for her mother, from her father. Shakily, he wrote his name in the card for his wife. The last Valentine. You see, these stories do not need to be magnificent tales of heroic efforts to display how much a man loves the woman he is courting, but rather they share those every day moments (and the humorous ones from the early days of dating) that make life special.
