Amelia

Experience the romance, struggle and triumph of legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhart as she chases love and lives her dreams in Amelia, landing on Blu-ray Disc with Digital Copy and DVD February 2 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Hailed as “The Queen of the Air,” Amelia boldly flew into the annals of history with her solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Bound by ambition and love, her enduring marriage to George Putnam could not be broken by her determination to fly, or a secret passionate affair. Equal parts gripping drama, stirring romance and epic adventure, Amelia will take your breath away and send your spirit soaring!

I received this DVD to check out the week before Valentine’s Day, and although my intentions were good, I didn’t watch the movie with my husband that weekend. It was a movie that I kept passing by on the shelf, because truthfully I wasn’t that eager to see it. After finally sitting down one evening to watch it, I’m ashamed I had waited so long. Amelia soars, and is an intriguing story for history buffs of course, but also for feisty women like me who like learning more about amazing women like Amelia Earhart.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I have to agree with the general consensus that the cinematography is what takes this story (I’d say life story, except that I’d have liked to learn more about Amelia before fame absorbed her) to award winning levels. From the opening scene where we see Hilary Swank perfectly capture Amelia’s smile, to the last smile we see from her as she climbs into the cockpit of her ill-fated flight, the scenes in between can take your breath away (and I’m not just talking about the aerial shots…ahem.)

I knew very little about this historic individual and Amelia as a movie captivated me. Off I went to Google to learn more about who Amelia Earhart was, and to fill in the blanks from the movie concerning her early life and how Amelia Earhart the girl became Amelia Earhart the aviatrix. I also stumbled upon countless theories on what exactly became of Amelia. Now that is a script for another movie entirely!
